Lou, hands down. Without her outside scoring this team is dead. Earlier in the season I would have said either Aaliyah or Nika, but AE's production has fallen off, and Nika's turnovers have increased. Lou has been consistent all year.

I voted for Lou because I feel that she really carried us for most games and we couldn't have won without her. But all of the starting five regulars are vital. And CD coming off the bench from injury has done great for us as well.

I shared this thread with my wife. . .

Boy did I get an ear full. I have been instructed, in no uncertain terms, to inform everyone on this thread that as far as my wife is concerned Aubrey is the MVP!

In her words" Aubrey does EVERYTHING for the team!!!!"

.-.
I voted for Nika, but I'm shocked how low Dorka and Aubrey are polling. You really could make a great case for all five of them.
jami- - I agree with you as you could pick anyone of the 5 as MVP, but three are slightly ahead!
Nika, the heart and engine of the team; and Aaliyah, who was unstoppable 95% of the time in the lane! and my choice, Lou!
I picked Lou because NO-ONE, even the coaching staff had an idea Lou would turnout as wonderful as she's been, especially when opponents designed their defenses around hitting her every play!
She may have had slow 1/2's but finished strong!
She was UCONN WBB's savior!

I voted for Aaliyah. Her stat line is off the charts. I think if we had last year's version of Aaliyah, we would be really hurting this season, given all of the injuries. But Aaliyah is 2nd in minutes played, 1st in FG%, 1st in total points scored, 1st in rebounds, 2nd in assists, 3rd in steals, and 1st in blocks. She is my choice for team MVP.
Stats do count. I agree with Jelly. But I cannot choose among the
full complement of the UCONN rotation. Each game brings a different
clutch performer (or two, or three!). When the occasional " L " came
I saw a lot of heart from everyone. Ask again at the end of the BE tournament
and the NCAAs. Not ONE, EVERYONE!

it is clear that nailing 3s is the supreme virtue among many BYers!
(ok by me, but ... )

lou is certainly deserving. a team DOES have to score to wins its games.
yes no way they win as many games without her scoring but how many games would UConn have won if Edwards wasn't so dominant inside or Nika with her assists and defensive play.......I don't remember the last time there was so much equality when it comes to individual value to the team......and Dorka and Aubrey were also key to so many victories......

You bring me into the candy store and give one nickel? I need four more nickels. (And yes, I am suffering from an extreme case of future shock and inflation denial.)

I voted for Edwards because she's most like Paul Bunyon with everyone else together being like Babe the Blue Ox.
And between them they built the Great Lakers....Lakes. :D

Nika. Without her quarterbacking this team, it dies. There is NO replacement for her.
Agreed..........Lou would not get shots after the inevitable turnovers if Nika were not at point.

Nika is central to this team and I love what she brings, but she doesn't get all of those assists without somebody putting it in the hole. That is why I credit Lou as the MVP of the regular season. Simply an amazing performance for a UConn "newbie".

I voted for Nika. Geno says it is so. how can it even be the subject of debate? ;-)
Geno said great things about Lou, Nika & Aaliyah
Please post a video where Geno says that Nika is MVP

I concede that Aubrey Griffin had a very nice season coming back from a bad injury and that she plays with a lot of intensity but I'm astonished that she drew the vast majority of the votes insofar as MVP of the team ..... I can't conceive that she would have gotten almost any votes, not that she's hasn't contributed a lot to this team but her contributions don't approach at least three of the other Huskies ... she is a great athlete but I'm trying to understand how so many could pick her as THE MVP .... I don't know when I've been as shocked on this site ....

A popularity post????????

Thanks for those stats. Absolutely agree. Nika passed, Lou shot, but Aaliyah did everything. Including a great defensive effort against Siegrist, in the game that decided the regular season title.

Not so long ago my vote would have been for Edwards. She's still an important part of the team but no longer MVP.
I’m sticking with Aaliyah. The extra attention she gets opens the floor for others.

I will say that this team really isn’t a single superstar and supporting cast. On any given night, any starter could end up being the MVP. Aubrey has, Dorka has, certainly Lou has, as well as Aaliyah and Nika. In my opinion, having so many players, who can go off on any given night is valuable, because it is hard to cut the head off the dragon if you are fighting a hydra.

I voted for Lou she's had a great season but the more I think about it it's Nika..she really is the heart and soul of the team..runs the offense and is a lock down defender
We should do another pole on who is the “glue” player. That I think goes to Nika, but Aubrey and Dorka are also possibilities.

I voted for Lou even though there's been some inconsistency on her part of late. Several other players are deserving, and without any one of them, we'd be lucky to have a .500 record since the Big East has given us the competition we always desired when UCONN was in the American Conference. The difference is, Lou's contribution was never a "given", especially since she never played at the competitive level she does now. One stat I did look at was turnovers, and unfortunately two other candidates for the artificial MVP crown lead in that category....by a lot. One can argue that they come with the territory, and that may be true, but they were maddening nonetheless and contributed mightily to each of our losses, especially the fast break passes into the stands. I always feel more comfortable when Lou is on the floor, knowing that she can get hot at any moment, and she made the shot that ultimately made the difference in the game on a number of occasions when things looked bleak. I also appreciated when she would get annoyed and sing "Le Marseillaise" to the opponent who offended her. Anyway, bottom line is they are all collectively MVP, and it will certainly be a year to remember (or forget as some may choose).

The reality is it’s hard to really identify an MVP because the team pretty much has no success without each one of the iron 5. I picked Edwards because she scored, rebounded and played good D. But a case can certainly be made for especially Nika and Lou but Dorka and Aubrey were pretty much indispensable. Kinda why this team had way more Ws than we had a right to expect, missing dozens of points and mostly missing both of the duo that would challenge for the best backcourt in women’s college hoop history.

Your absolutely correct...she's had some good games but also quite a few where she didn't show up..MVP..that's ridiculous

Who's your MVP player of this team? I've excluded both Azzi and Caroline do to the number of games they've missed. I included Dorka as she played 23 games compared to Caroline's 17. I have included an option for other which should be used if you want to vote for Azzi or Caroline. Please post the player's name if you choose other.
If we didn't have Nika all season we would have a far less potent offense.
