Somewhere there's a guy out there who overlooked and passed over for the head coaching job he covets.

He deserves a shot and still hasn't gotten one. I hope we find that guy.

Gonna add Mike Denbrock from Notre Dame here. Heard him on sirius radio today and he was begging for a shot to be a HC. Said everyone says he is too old. He is 61 and has been at the premier independent program, with stops at Cincy and LSU in between. Could be here 5-7 years and retire having moved us to the ACC

I'm thinking that the state will come up with additional funding for football. AD David Benedict should then optimize those dollars by hiring Sammis or a successful northeastern FCS/G5 coach (e.g., Cahill, Carty) with significant salary increases for the GM, and position coaches and a fully funded NIL to diversify the risk of losing any one person. A team based approach. Surround the new coach with the best possible talent to achieve success.

In Dave we trust.
Agreed 100%. DB needs the right guy and that guy needs the tools to succeed, as you pointed out. Paying for a Mullen leaves us unable to pay for the support necessary to win. Knute Rockne wouldn’t succeed without being supported as fully as possible. DB rolling the dice on the Chesney model.

How about Lou Spanos. He got overlooked.
But that reminds me of T. J. Weist, thought he did a real good job as interim coach after Diaco. has both college and NFL experience.

The poor guy was instrumental in getting DB and Mora together, only to have Mora send hom packing after he got the job.

I've had my eye on Ryan Carty, HC of Delaware. He's both experienced and an up and comer. He's got an aggressive offensive philosophy. If he came perhaps he'd bring his QB Nick Minicucci--who was impressive when we played them.
His salary is under $1M at UD. I like his background--his success at his prior asst coaching stops and his New England roots.
He signed a 5 year extension in January at UD but these days nothing is permanent!

Holy Cross is not an Ivy league school.
I was talking about Yale head coach Reno. If he got the UConn job I do not think he would be bringing many players. Chesney who was at Holy Cross then JMU is now at UCLA.

Well, that seems to have worked out nicely. We got one of the most popular choices!

I’d much prefer a guy based on ability than because he grew up in Hartford or someplace. That seems to be the basis for a good deal of the speculation in the Record Journal piece.
True...I like Jason Candle as the new UConn HC. He might not grew up in Connecticut, but Toledo is good for an MAC school. Great hire, DB...
