I’d much prefer a guy based on ability than because he grew up in Hartford or someplace. That seems to be the basis for a good deal of the speculation in the Record Journal piece.
I'm for it.. Give him a shot... at this level he may put us in a very dominant position when you look at the places he's coached ( at all levels, including the NFL )... we hired Mora off the street when nobody wanted him... Give this fellow CT native a shot... I'm sure even though he hasn't lived here in 20 years he comes here to see family on the regular...
Seriously, what do we have to lose? His ability to recruit, at the highest level of college football...
We'd make a mistake not to consider the guy...
It wouldn't surprise me if he's making far more as a defensive line coach at A&M than we could consider paying a coordinator at this point. As a DC right?
Right?

He's well traveled so he may have recruiting ties in quite a few prime spots (Texas, Pennsylvania) but it would be a gamble to see if he can run a program. Maybe he can bring his buddy Mangini in as program GM.
I agree fully. This job is too hard to turn over to a Position Coach. That's very high risk.
I disagree, I think with the reputation and connections Spencer has he would be able to build an impressive staff. Penn State, Florida, A&M, heck even that putrid franchise I cheer for - the Giants. His players love him, he's a top notch recruiter, and he's got personality. Besides, he was Associate HC at PSU and Co DC at Florida. He's not inept. This job is too hard to turn over to a Position Coach. That's very high risk.
I want a guy that makes a statement we are moving up.
...too soon.....stillIf we cannot lure Nick Saban out of retirement there is a defensive line coach at the University of North Carolina who is currently working with Bill Belichick that might be a good fit. I believe his name is Diaco.
Salary for the head coach, the OC and DC need to be increased. It wouldn't surprise me if he's making far more as a defensive line coach at A&M than we could consider paying a coordinator at this point.

No. Has not lived in CT in 20 years. Been working at top P2 schools.Has he said he wants to be here?
What does fully funded NIL mean? At LSU they have committed for revenue+NIL $25 to $30 million per year (Football only). Head coaches who are in demand are now demanding revenue+NIL support and certain compensation level for their coaching staff prior to taking a job. DB will need to have UConn football support package ready for any potential candidates.I'm thinking that the state will come up with additional funding for football. AD David Benedict should then optimize those dollars by hiring Sammis or a successful northeastern FCS/G5 coach (e.g., Cahill, Carty) with significant salary increases for the GM, and position coaches and a fully funded NIL to diversify the risk of losing any one person. A team based approach. Surround the new coach with the best possible talent to achieve success.
In Dave we trust.
They had Peyton Manning in the late 90s and never let that mentality goDisgrace how? That seems harsh.
He had two 9 win seasons there. Tennessee isn’t nearly as good as they think they are.
Man I'd love Ed O, but I doubt his personality mixes well with the CT media snobs
He's also just not a good coach.Man I'd love Ed O, but I doubt his personality mixes well with the CT media snobs
Sorry, meant direct revenue sharing. UConn currently has a goal of $18M direct revenue sharing, which is under the $20.5M cap. The state needs to somehow make up the $2.5M difference AND increase the salary pool, probably another $2.5M, so $5M in total, all allocated to the football program, assuming no Title IX issues (luckily the wbb program generates substantial revenue). That, plus upgrading the RENT, would seem to be the immediate short term financial issues. I think Ritter can get the funds. What does fully funded NIL mean?
