I'd prefer them more if they cheered more and wore haute couture UConn gear less.

Any time I see a UConn fan at Gampel wearing a sweatshirt that costs $200+, I fear the building is going to get gentrified and turn into loft spaces for young alums with trust funds and no college debt.

Where does one buy a $200 UConn sweatshirt?

Good points.
Is the broke UConn student a thing anymore?
I can't tell you how many times I paid for 1a.m. Sgt pepps breadsticks with laundry quarters.

Many people have a hard enough time affording bleacher seats, let alone lower bowl.
I get it and empathize. But the folks being criticized are making important contributions to the program in other ways. The student section should always be packed and it sounds like Benedict has fixed the mistakes previously made that contributed to it not always being full.

I think this whole argument is misguided, from Hurley all the way down. The team has not been playing at a level to get the crowd fired up. And the students chanting “wake up Gampel” rather than cheering for the team is just a sad look. Throwing all the fault on the people who financially support the program is a bad look.

The fundraising from the UConn donor class is obviously essential to the viability of UConn athletics as we know it. Sadly, if we are going to try to stay at the Big boy table in college athletics, it requires tens of millions of annual fundraising just to stay equal with any P-4 conference member. This is so because we make chicken guano from the Big East. That means that the best seats are going to the biggest donors. They might be the least rabid fans in the UConn universe! Further a lot of them just don't attend games, especially in the winter, because they're in Florida meeting their 6 month residency requirement. In that case, they may be giving tickets away to even less effusive "fans" or worse yet leaving the seats unused.

It's not just Gampel - a lot of seats go unused at Toscano too. If you're not going to a game, there should be a way to give your seats away to students so the place can be filled with people with pulses and a rabid interest in the outcome!

I was going to ask the same.

I don't have a teenage daughter.

Maybe we should get Brunello Cucinelli to make UConn sweatshirts. And it's the end of the season so the sweatshirts are on sale. Only $630 instead of the regular price of $1050. What a bargain!

Most of them are still physically able to stand and make some noise when the coaches/team are asking for it. But this is also an issue with the upper section. The other issue is TheHordes - see what I did there 😁 - of people who leave early.

Your quarters or your roommates? I had to hide my quarters when I was a student.

Clearly I don’t belong in lower bowl although I’ve sat there a few times. Doubtful if I’ve every spent more than $60 for s sweatshirt and I had to google haute couture.

I don’t know the average income of the ticket holders in the lower bowl but I’m sure it’s a hell of a lot more than me. When I can’t go I try to move my tickets to recoup my investment. I suspect the ticket holders are not that concerned about losing a hundred bucks or so.
maybe a call to the big fish and ask them if they can’t make the game, the athletic department can find a fan of the program to attend.
It’s not a lot of work to track down the empty seats in the lower bowl now that they have e-tickets to find patterns.

How old are you and where do you sit when you attend games?

I'll say this. The Champions Club that sits at halfcourt? The minimum donation to qualify for access there is $25,000 a year.

I always ate my roommates American cheese slices. When there's 64 of them it's hard to monitor the missing.

$30,000. They increased the threshold this year. All American went from $10K to $15K. Lot of All American donors in lower bowl as well.
