POLL: Pat's legacy in light of this LV season

How is Pat's legacy impacted if the LVs make the Final Four or beyond this season?

  • Not one iota. Pat's legacy is so much bigger than this season as to make this question pointless.

  • Positively- it demonstrates what a great mentor she was to Holly the coach as well as to her players

  • Neutral- it's not like Tennessee would have faced a murderers' row this tourney.

  • Negatively- suggests Pat's program building /timing thereof was better than her ongoing coaching.

So, the LVs are back in the E8 with a VERY good chance of getting to a stage of the tourney they haven't seen since Candace Parker was in Knoxville.

And let's say they make good on that chance. What would that say about what happened at Tennessee the last four seasons of Pat's career...or indeed Pat's career as a whole? I could see a number of interpretations, and I've tried to capture those possibilities above.

What would be your interpretation?

I'm asking this as a WBB fan. Please let's not turn this into a Pat-Geno thing, as that has very little to do with this thread topic.

Doesn't hurt the legacy one bit.

Pretty hard to hold the last few years of Pat's reign against her. Dementia comes on subtly, and definitely affected the way she operated.

In recent years, some of her quotes were complete head scratchers, to the point where I thought she was simple. Prior to those years, I remember disliking her quotes/opinions, but always recognized they came from a sharp mind/intellect.

I remember believing that Pat was losing her mind, thinking it was the just stress of being bested by Geno. Turns out she was, but it was a natural occurrence (although losing to Geno probably didn't help!).

Pat built a strong legacy. Holly has been by Pat for 27 years. She has learned many things from Pat.

Doesn't hurt her legacy at all. I like UT and will be honest when I say that if they beat Louisville, they will have had the easiest path to the Final Four....I don't doubt that any of the three previous Lady Vols squads would have made a final four all three seasons if their path to the Final Four was playing a 6 seed in the Sweet 16 and a 5 seed in the Elite 8.

That said, what Holly has done this season is completely independent of what Pat accomplished at Tennessee. Losing so many key contributors, dealing with multiple injuries and still being able to win the SEC and earn an Elite 8 berth is pretty remarkable. Hats off to her, definitely one of the best coaching jobs this year in WCBB.

There is nothing short about Holley , she has studied the game an actually bit her lip during the last four years. But look at this year, change after change, she could win it all ... Holly will get a big or two then get back on the National Stage with UConn twice on her schedule ... and in 5-8 years it will be Who..?? Pat ..... Who..???
