Yeah, those women are very good. I wouldn't take them over Tuck. I might take Stewie, though :)
I would take Turner over Tuck and Nina Davis is a close call. But, remember we're now arguing over whether UConn's 3rd and 4th best players (Tuck and Nurse) are the best at their positions or just really, really close to it.

And I suspect that KLS, Collier and Williams (didn't Tuck say she is the most improved?) are all be among the top 25 players in the country, with Butler not far behind them.

SC on their floor will be tough. If we have an off day, and they bring their A game and get a lot of breaks, we could lose that one. Other than that, only injuries or a team getting freakishly hot from outside the arc (a la Louisville v Baylor) can stop the Huskies this year.

That's my point.

I love Nina Davis' game; first class...and Turner's and the others
But they're just one for each team (sprinkled around the country)

So we talk about Tuck...but there's always Stewie...and Mo...and Kia and Butler and Gabby and Phessa and the #1 rated recruit...

As an aggregate: far and away the best players...and the best coach.

C'mon: this could be the season that borders on the unfair if all play anywhere near their potential

Not complaining, mind you; fun for a season

Next year should be a bit more realistic.

1 loss. It's a mojo thing for me. Nothing more. If we are lucky it's Ohio, then we are rated #2 until a certain game in February. I'm sure you see where this is going.
Even my favorite Uconn Wbb team (sue, swin, asya, Tamika didn't go undefeated---that was the team Pat Summitt said--I'm going to their graduation just to make sure they are going-- or words of that nature. A bit of funny remarks with a modicum of truth from then a gracious lady. Even Geno has stopped predicting NC's or undefeated seasons---he learned after he stood on the podium in Hartford and told the world Uconn would win again the next year and they didn't.

But didn't Geno tell the President in the visit this year : "see you next year!"?

Once again. Ecclesiastes 9-11:

"The race is not to the swift, or the battle to the strong."

> . . But that's where the smart money goes. ;)

UConn: a veritable tsunami through the (undefeated) season and a winner by a TKO in the NC game. :)

We can all pick specific players on other teams that are very, very good. But there is only one or two on teams who can contend ND, SC, Baylor, Tennessee, Stanford and maybe Louisville and FSU. UCONN has not only Stewie and MoJeff, AA's, but Tuck, Butler, Nurse, Williams, Samuelson, Collier and Boykin. What other team can boast this many players? None.

At any given time in any game, our opponents have no idea who will torched them for 20+ points. Gimmick defenses don't work against UCONN. Give them a few game minutes and they will figure out how to score at will.

And we know that we have a defense second to none.

While I will not predict an undefeated season, I think its fair to say that Stewie, MoJeff and Morgan will be cutting down the nets in April!

Wow. Somebody actually voted 5 or more losses!
Either a visitor from another school or someone afraid of bad mojo for predicting good things?

Let's not go completely overboard.

This is a wonderful team with enormous strengths and no apparent weaknesses.
And we have Geno and the staff.

But Muffet (especially) and Kim and Tara have had teams in the recent past that competed, even defeated UConn ; outworked us right up to the end.

Yes, Brenda and Kim haven't done that yet, perhaps never will.

But you don't have to go back many years to find effective competition; competition that even prevailed, often with the clock ticking down.

I am content as the season is about to begin and will be uncomplaining about huge victories.
But we have the best players by a very wide margin.

It's not that the best of the others are not trying or are poorly led.

msf22b- - -Yes you are right, The Muffet, Kim & Tara have beaten UCONN in the recent past! But if you watch those teams over their whole season those teams and Brenda Frese and Dawn Staley's teams for that matter do not play 40 minutes at 100% effort as UCONN's players do! They get up for UCONN that game and play at 85% effort the rest of their games!
And if you want to really be honest IMO UCONN beat UCONN during that stretch with ND! For whatever reason UCONN didn't play with the confidence they played everyone else! And they proved it when they finally got their collective "heads screwed on right" they destroyed ND and The Muffet the last 3 or 4 times they have played by 18 to 28 points!
"Even a broken clock is right twice a day"! Over the course of a full schedule NO ONE in WCBB plays harder than UCONN does! That is my point! Not just one night or one game, but over a whole season, UCONN doesn't take a night off!
Ky calls their defense: FORTY MINUTES OF HELL! But when KY plays UCONN their 40 minutes of hell lasts 40 seconds!
UCONN's opponents are trying! But WHY DON"T those coaches named, that are supposed to be SO outstanding as coaches, they do not get their players to play as hard as UCONN ALL THE TIME!
Those coaches lack something that Geno and his staff have!

It might just be me, but given this summer (and maybe playing for country brought her to different, untranslatable heights), but the biggest difference between last year's team and this year's - and what might just make this season better than last (and thus undefeated) - is that Kia Nurse could now be a bonafide top-20 player in the country. Add that to three other top-20 players, and you have the makings...

Turner from N Dame this yr may be a phenom. There is a S Star at Fl State that's incredible- maybe a sophomore now too. Nina Davis- she still at Baylor. There are some prolific talents. We just play better and smarter on both ends of the court.

Geno-ista- I'm guessing the FSU sophomore you are referring to is Shakayla Thomas. As a 5'11" forward, she's very impressive physically and has simply fantastic athleticism, strength and off-the-charts leaping ability. Here are her freshman year stats:

THOMAS: 19 mpg....10 points pg....4.8 reb.pg...48/90 free throws....11 assists....25 blocks....24 steals....49 turnovers....0/0 three-pointers

Well, let's not forget that UConn has this kid named Gabby Williams who's also a 5'11" sophomore forward and here are her freshman stats:

WILLIAMS:15.5 mpg....8.3 points pg...5.7 reb.pg...42/91 free throws...50 assists...14 blocks....46 steals....40 turnovers...0/1 three pointers

Gabby Williams, by almost every measure, is equal to if not superior to that "incredible" Shakayla Thomas (ACC 6th man of year, 1st team All ACC Tournament). Interesting that both kids showed zero 3-point or mid-range shooting ability, both were really lousy free throw shooters, and both are under-sized demons inside and on the glass.

Gabby has all the natural ability in the world. If she puts in (or hopefully has already put in) the requisite work on her weak areas, then she, too, is going to be "incredible." And Gabby has the advantage of being coached by the best in the business. I'm expecting greatness from her.

[btw-it's interesting that you like Turner and Davis so much despite their offensive games being so limited and completely one-dimensional, while Morgan is the underrated WCBB queen of versatility and excellence.]
-apologies for running a bit off topic, but I love that Williams kid and couldn't resist.

For those people that have voted above, UCONN to lose between 1 and 5 games, I realize that you, in your humble opinion, think that, but being realistic, those teams will have to score over 85 points (UCONN's usual average), while holding UCONN to below 60 or 75 (their usual average)! UCONN defensively holds their opponents to 40 points on average, is there ANY TEAM on UCONN's schedule that can hold Stewie, Tuck, MoJeff, Nurse, KLS, etal to under 80 points! And can put together 5 players scoring 80 points or more themselves? No insult intended, but it is realistic that NO-ONE presently on the CT schedule is capable of doing that!
Picking out the top opponents on CT's schedule: The OSU, Nebr., KSU, DePaul, ND, FSU, LSU, MD, USF, and SoCar, are not capable of doing the above! And the possible opponents CT could face in the NCAA's, TN, NoCar, UCLA, Stanford, MSU, Baylor, Calif., TX, TxA&M, MissSt., ArizSt., etc. do not have the players capable of doing what it will take to beat the Huskies! But on any given night anything IS possible, but realistically, can these teams do it! I don't think so, IMHO!

While UConn might very well finish the season undefeated, your logic is a little faulty. I refer to the following, "those teams will have to score over 85 points (UCONN's usual average), while holding UCONN to below 60 or 75 (their usual average)! " I think this should have been worded somewhat differently but taking it at face value, If Uconn's opponent scores 77 points and UConn scores 76, the other team would win while meeting neither of your requirements.
FWIW. I voted for 1 loss for a couple of reasons. One being that strange things can happen in road games. In another voting thread I opted for the 1 loss and a NC option.

Actually your favorite team went 39-0 in the 2001-2002 season.

Yes but since I didn't (deliberately) specify a particular year--they lost to ND --and Pat actually spoke words similar to those previously written. Yes they along with DT were tough to play--my 2 favorite games of that team were against U of Ok (sooners) one in Hartford--you could hear me shouting--let them play, the refs overshadowed the first half and the Championship--much closer than I expected.

Two. South Carolina and ND. Why? SC because they have excellent players and ND because they've always managed somehow to give UConn fits (damn that leprechaun anyway)

UCONN does not necessarily have the best players. There are better guards than Nurse and forwards as good as Tuck. UCONN has the better coached players!
I agree that Kia is outstanding but isn't THE BEST two guard in the country. I think Tuck is pretty special!

Didn't we do this poll about 3 weeks ago? I still vote 0

I think that poll was how many games will UCONN lose in the season... this poll is just for the regular season. I presume in a few weeks there will be another poll... how many games will UCONN lose in the post season

I was thinking not very many. 3 would be a disappointing season. 2 might be ok, if we win the last game. 1 would match last year.

0 looked very attainable until I read about Natalie being out for 2 months. Her injury increases the chances of a loss, but it may allow for the freshmen to grow, which could help us later in the season.
