Why are crooks such bad shots in tv shows? They fire a bunch of rounds and don't hit anything and then the sheriff fires 1 time and boom..bad guy dead? Thoughts?

Show like? First 48, Cops or shows like TJ Hooker or SWAT?

I know cops are trained to shoot accurately but its funny how the bad guys are so bad at it...Hollywood..

They show a video at most academies involving a real time shootout in which over a hundred rounds were fired between the police and suspect. As I recall no one was ever hit but they tore up a couple of vehicles.

I was told in a college course that in WWII there were about 200 rounds of rifle fire for every rifle bullet casualty.

It's economics. The country that can make the most bullets wins.

I tell my wife It’s “the magic of the movies” or tv

Worse than that, every TV bad guy takes the time to explain to his potential victim why he is going to shoot them. Of course, before he is finished explaining, he is distracted , and the good guy gets away. Just like in real life.

Besides the fantasy part.
Law enforcement train
no holding the handgun sideways and all bad things untrained shooters do

I suspect most bad guys do not get instruction and do not practice. Couple this with the fact that a handgun is meant as a very close range weapon due to its inherent characteristics and you have the perfect recipe for missing .

Another problem with cop shows is that when there is a bank robbery the cops are on the scene 30 seconds after the alarm is sounded. I have personal experience working in 3 different CT cities that the response time is more like 15 minutes.

Alydar, not sure what cities you were in but I can never recall a response time over five minutes, even in heavy traffic.

I'm telling you I lived it, about a half dozen times. I worked in a cash-heavy business and over 17 years experienced holdup alarms triggered in 3 different police jurisdictions and the minimum response time was 10 minutes.
Actually I used to instruct the cashiers that if they were held up not to trigger the alarm until the thief had walked out the door. Better someone get away a couple thousand than have a gunman inside with me, the employees and the customers and a dozen police outside with their pistols drawn.

Why does everyone with a bag of groceries have an loaf of french bread poking out of the top of it?
What groceries?

And why do all TV cops eat Chinese food straight out of the carton using chopsticks? I have never seen anyone do this in real life.

Someone needs to show them that the carton folds out into a plate.
