I just set an auto lock for seven days. I'm worked on a feature that can exclude certain prefixes (the OT stuff).

The bottom line is, if there is new information (e.g. a commit, de-commit, etc), there is no good reason to add it to an existing thread.

So if the new thread is relevant to an old thread, save for an arbitrary time lapse, can we link to the old?

The mega threads, especially for recruiting, are bat$hit stupid, and they are keeping others from starting new threads, and participating in discussions that others may want to read.

Roughly 1/2 this site's visitors come here infrequently, and they are not going to read a 40 page thread that has large gaps of nonsense conversations between relevant updates of new info.

Imagine if when you were at work, you actually worked instead of spending all day here. Every once in a while you'd pop in to see if there is anything new. You are not going spend the time reading pages 27 to 30 of a mega thread you've already watched devolve into nonsense. That is the majority of people who visit this site. The avg visit is ten minutes, a couple times a week. This is down big from just a couple years ago.

And of course there are exceptions, especially for the off topic stuff. But more often than not, new news should = a new thread. That's the way the boneyard worked until about a year or two ago, and that's the way it's going to work from now on.
