There is a pretty well publicized story about Audi Crooks recently scoring a lot of points and playing while she was sick. There’s a well-known UConn’s version of the story where Katie Lou Samuelson played when she had to run to the sidelines to throw up.

At what point is it too much risk to other players to allow someone who is visually ill to be allowed on the court? While basketball isn’t a contact sport, everyone is touching the same ball and being exposed in close proximity. At some point, there has to be an obligation for coaches to hold out kids who are ill. I know it won’t happen, but I kind of think letting sick players expose other kids is disgusting.

I think there is a point where you are still recovering but no longer spreading. IMO that is where the line in the sand is drawn. But I'm not doctor. I assume in this post-Covid world that they would have to test for that somehow before they're given the green light.

It also depends upon the cause of the sickness. If a player ate something causing stomach problems, that is not particularly contagious.

Yeah, that's the story now is Crooks wasn't really sick with flu or something. Ate something that didn't agree with her, barfed and was fine after that although she only played 20 minutes or so. Sort of thing where we would just take a Pepto and chill out but we aren't running up and down the court.

That depends, too. E. coli isn't contagious, but a lot of tummy bugs can be food-borne or transmitted by touch.

Actually some strains of E. coli are extremely contagious and can run through a hospital or nursing home staff and patients like wildfire.
