Players playing at Unrivaled

. . . Who are the rest of the for sure players? Let’s guess.

A’ja Wilson
Caitlin Clark
Sabrina
Allisha Gray
Allisa Thomas
Dewanna Bonner

Clark’s status vis-a-vis Unrivaled is interesting. Is Clark’s current plan not to play in the offseason (i.e. Unrivaled) a negotiating position? Do we reliably know she was invited? Is it smart for Clark to turn down the W in crowd (even if she also needs an extended break)?

Maybe she'll take the same approach as Wilson and train during the offseason. Don't think she's played overseas. She hasn't been part of the Athletes Unlimited league either.

Clark has made a statement in her previous interview that, and I paraphrase, she will take some weeks off but will probably get bored and pick up a basketball. I don't know what that means but I get the impression that she wants to shrink away from the limelight and actually absorb everything that has happened to her since the beginning of her senior year at Iowa. I doubt we will see her play in an overseas league or unrivaled. Also, she makes enough money that she has the privilege to make that choice.

an interview i saw ruled out A'ja - at least for this season she will not be Unrivaled.

.-.

Was selfishly hoping she was going to join Athletes Unlimited.

Been watching her ads with Sydney Colson for Aflac. They have good chemistry on camera. Would have been great to see them play it up during the AU season.

Aaliyah Edwards is unrivaled!

Even as a UConn fan. I think Unrivaled is too UConn-centric. Edwards is not the UConn player I have a problem with in the league though. I am really glad she has been selected.

Can you expand on what you mean about the league being too UConn-centric? Is this related to how the league came about, the number of players participating, etc.?

Everything. I think if you don’t like UConn it would repel you that UConn is involved to the extent they are. And maybe that is inevitable to some extent since UConn was the premier program in America for decades.

But unrivaled also promised top top players in the league. At least three UConn players selected aren’t top 50 players rn.

Considering it's year one and they're also competing against leagues overseas and Athletes Unlimited, I think they've done a decent job with the pool of players. Sure some, including UConn selections may be head scratchers to some but they have to start somewhere. And compared to Athletes Unlimited's inaugural season, they've done a better job at attracting players fans are familiar with.

They should have built teams around alma maters and home country or state.

UConn
South Carolina
Baylor
Notre Dame
Tennessee
Stanford
Australia
Canada?
State of Iowa to get CC
State of California or Texas

I would watch that and so would many casuals. IDC that it leads to women who may be 97th in talent playing while the 53rd best is left out. It gives a connection to teams that lack a home city identity, and that connection would persevere as rosters changed. I have no connection to the teams otherwise, and I'm not going to randomly become a fan of the Crimson Queenz* or whatever, esp since their roster will presumably reset every year.

*just going with something that sounds like a female version of the teams in the men's 3 on 3 league, which I also do not watch for the same reason.

It looks like they expanded the number of players as well, to 36. With Boston being the latest reveal

Per this article, they did not go in the direction you suggested for team names.

"Last week, Laces, Mist, Rose, Lunar Owls, Phantom and Vinyl were announced as the six team names.". How they're going to drive loyalty off these names is anyone's guess.

Interesting now having 6 players per team where as in the Olympics the 3x3 teams has only 4 players, though they will be playing on a bigger court.

The prime purpose of the league is to make money. People pay money to root for whoever UConn plays. It's the old saying, love us, hate us, just don't forget us.

I can say that I’m very interested in watching the inaugural season. I’d love to see Caitlin playing, possibly A’ja as well.

I’d be surprised if Aja isn’t playing. Since her and Pheesa are supposedly close
