Their post wasn't about Van Lith. The post you're replying to was in response to my post about Faith Masonius transferring from Maryland. She graduated from Louisville in 3 years. Next year will be her Covid year
Huh? Jump was a 3 point specialist. I think she did improve on other things, but still nearly 3/4 of her shots during her career were behind the arc. Van Lith is an entirely different kind of player.
She’d be a good replacement for Hannah Jump at Stanford, where I felt she should’ve gone to begin with.
I did a comparison of the roster/stats and most of the players on this list were not major contributors to Colorado this year. (However, it does leave a void in the roster and kind of throws a bunch of recruiting effort and hours out the window. Ah well )As I and another poster thought, this list doesn't look like an indication of issues at Colorado.
Oregon St, just a few hours from home.So Hailey Van Lith left Louisville to chase a title. Is that still the aspiration? If so Stanford might make sense (do they accept grad transfers??). Or else USC... Can't really think of any other landing spots that offer a title shot...
Okay. I think they probably could've used her this year, a guard who can create her own shot. They didn't have much of that.I just mean as a 2-guard. She wouldn’t need to run point since Lepolo has that covered.
Why? Talk about taking the down escalator instead of the up escalator.Hailey follow Jeff Walz wherever he goes. Kansas St or Colorado.
Spot on. Despite her success at Louisville, Hailey Van Lith was searching for something: a championship, PG credentials, NIL riches, elevated draft status. It didn’t work out for her at LSU so the search goes on.My take on Hailey Van Lith.
Some publication wrote a puff piece prior to the LSU-Iowa game that tried to position Hailey Van Lith at peace with her decision to "get better" and doing so at LSU. I never bought why this couldn't happen at Louisville because Coach Jeff Walz gave her the keys to the court and encouragement -- in his own Walzie way -- to boot.
That said, she looked absolutely miserable at LSU. If Kim Mulkey shared any teaching/insight on playing the point, it sure wasn't apparent. I'm used to seeing Hailey Van Lith confident -- even cocky -- here she looked unsure of what to do next at times. Go to the WNBA? She has to go somewhere to rebuild her confidence.
To do that, she's got to be in sync with a coach who will tell her how she'll be used, what he/she can help with and be realistic. BTW, IMO, that isn't being a true point guard: Hailey Van Lith is a combo guard, with an emphasis on scoring. In that respect, she reminds me a bit of Dara Mabrey, who wanted to be a lead guard, tried but realized she's a scorer ... and played well next to Olivia Miles. Can Hailey Van Lith find her "Miles?" Kiki Rice at UCLA?

I could see Van Lith fitting into a Kenny Brooks system. She and Amoore would make a fantastic duo if they both ended up at Kentucky.
I think Texas might be a good choice.........Vic always has his teams in contention..........Spot on. This is her last year, one way or another. Let’s hope she chooses WISELY……
Chasing a ring is great, however no guarantee. It's a shame she wasn't thinking this a year ago, and if she was, I have questions.I feel like at this point for Hailey, it’s less about a title and more about who can prepare her for the league.
She graduated from Louisville in three years with a business degree.I can't imagine education was at the top of her priority list so far in her college career. But, never say never . . .

Good suggestion. Vic Schaefer likes to run that weave with his guards at the top of the key. Working that action with Harmon and Van Lith could be very difficult to defend.I think Texas might be a good choice.........Vic always has his teams in contention..........
We’ve already determined that she’s not a pg. So pairing up with Harmon at the #2 might be just what the doctor ordered. She would be behind Rori Harmon at PG; don't see her landing at Texas unless she is willing to play mostly SG.

Re: Van Lith. A lot of players consider returning home to play in front of family and friends. She’s a state of Washington product so… UW (now in the Big) is possible
correct, unfortunately. also exposed her defensive capabilities. if your not explosive scorer and/or can't defend or shoot 3s well, it is very hard to make it to the next level. wish her all the bestI think she can help somebody, but probably isn't considered good enough after this year to be the missing piece on a championship contender, or become a likely WNBA player. She is a pretty good undersized SG who doesn't bring much to the table outside of scoring.
Before the LSU experiment she was considered a marginal WNBA prospect as a too small SG who needed to show she could play some point guard. LSU was her opportunity to show point guard skills, and now that question has been answered, unfortunately for her in the negative. Now she will be viewed just as an undersized SG with no other pro level skills other than scoring. It is what it is, I think she can play for pay in Europe, but not here, and while she was a big name transfer last year, I don't expect top programs to be chasing her that much this year, but maybe they will.
