I was also happy to see RonJon lose a few pounds. He was 217 as a freshman, ballooned to 226 last year and clearly looked like he lost his ability to cut and accelerate.
cut? when did he show that? I like him at this size.. He's not cutting much... get him to run a little more North/South.. We had him trying to run outside way too much this past season..

It's possible to use a power runner outside the tackles -- the Giants did it very well with Jennings, for example. Johnson is hardly a speedster, but the extra 10 pounds took away any ability to change direction once he found a hole to run through.

Why was Johnson, clearly our best back in 2014, so ineffective in 2015? The only thing that seemed to change was his weight. I'm happy to see him closer to his 2014 size.

Pal it will be interesting to see where his weight gain's flatten out. With this most likely being the first time he has had a regimented structured nutrition/supplement program like Diaco and Balis utilize now and a football specific strength training program it is interesting how his body responded. They must also have a target weight for him too.
This is a picture of him in high school. He was about 260 or so here. Looks like a frame that accommodate many more pounds. And he needs to open his eyes.

Marriner had a number of opportunities including early in seasons and games. He received playing time almost every game. He just never showed the spark that would get him more playing time. He was solid. Knew his assignments. But never had that flash that made you think he would make a difference.

Not never, I saw a couple of flashes early on. I wish he had more chances on kickoff returns at least. Newsome took almost all of them and he was no great shakes there.

When you're right, you're right. He really looked a lot quicker and he had an acceleration we hadn't seen.

It reminds me of what Donald Brown went through. He got bigger for his sophomore season and lost some quickness. It was very little difference weight-wise, maybe 5 pounds but it made a huge difference in playing speed.

A player who went the other way was Kevin Murphy. He looked bigger and he hasn't lost any quickness. I think he will get meaningful minutes this year and his future is very bright.

I am really, really excited for this kid's future here. Think he is going to be an animal

We have a terrific youth movement going on across the DL - in addition to Murphy, Okunam and Ryslik look to be contributors.
