Nneka and Griner have very similar scoring and rebound stats. The BIG difference is that Griner has 79 blocks to Nneka's 9. Yes, Griner's height has a lot to do with that...duh. But it doesn't change the fact that in makes her a MUCH better defender than Nneka. THAT is the difference to being POY and runner-up this year.

I was arguing Griner's D abilities, but her O. Nneka has more of an O game.

I disagree. She just has to work a lot harder than Griner does so she has to do a lot more spinning and fakes. Griner can go over either shoulder and has a beautiful hook from each wing.

Head to head, Griner kills Nneka in the paint. And Nneka is a capable outside shooter but not spectacular.

But we are arguing POY. Griner's D is much more impressive than any advantage you may think Nneka has on offense. You cannot make a POY decision based on offense alone. Griner is possibly the best combination of offensive skill and defensive skill that women's basketball has ever seen.

I'm pretty sure the vote takes place before the NCAAs, but after the conference tourneys. I think it is too early to say who will win, but I think Griner has the advantage. Will having Sims on her team hurt her in the voting? Some of the team's success is due to Odyssey. If Baylor finishes undefeated, I think Griner wins. I'm holding my vote and still considering 3 players. The season is less than half over.

No to be a smart ass but I don't see any of our girls putting up those kind of numbers against some of the cupcakes we play.
maybe because they aren't relied as heavily upon, as stanford leans on nneka, even for cupcakes...

I'm sure Nneka's skills have been seen or done before, otherwise the US national team would invite her to attend the senior team.... she's not there yet, maybe after this year... oh wait that's when she would normally qualify... for the national team.

Griner is already on the Senior National Team because of her skill set, which changes the game on both ends of the floor..

its an obvious to most people outside of Palo Alto.

even last year... when we compared Moore to Griner... it was obvious then... that Moore was simply more amazing of a player....hence she won POY... hands down...

Griner is that player this year...

i think after stanfords weaker team is exposed with a loss from an unranked foe, or early tournament exit, people will think it was funny people even considered it.

Nneka will get her well-deserved recognition when she goes #1 to the WNBA.
