With a 7 player rotation, it will be a lot more difficult to keep players fresh. But Geno never hesitates to play his players extended minutes agains tough teams.

Both Hartley and Dolson played 39 minutes each against Stanford. I would expect a reply with several days since between games. Stewart will get similar minutes against Maryland.

That will be close to 120 minutes right there.

The remaining 80 will be split between the other 4 players, depending on how the game progresses.

I'm guessing with Maryland starting 6'4", 6"4" and 6'2" that Stokes will start until one of the Maryland bigs goes out.

Geno will have to be masterful with his matchup substitutions. It's going to be real interesting to watch.

I agree with doggydaddy, and I have to believe that coach has to find the best spots for Chong,Banks and Stokes, maybe even the walk ons,to keep the game from getting sloppy or out of control.

Walk ons won't see the light of day unless 3 players foul out.

Not really, he has 2 players on the bench (excluding the walkons), so, there is a 50% chance that he made the right decision...

Breanna will take over much like Diana and Maya did when they were here. Breanna will draw the attention and when need be defer to team mates. Plus's We do have a great foul shooting team. Dribble drive will be one of our biggest assets. I expect BB to be watched carefully as she is coming back from an ACL. Saniya will see a lot of playtime. Short bench foul trouble is big considering the way the games are being called this season. It works in our favor as we can penetrate. Stef and Breanna have to be cautious. It will all roll out on Friday at Maryland.

I think the issue is not playing time, which is quite obvious (all 7 play a lot) but rather
which individual or groupette from among this gloriously gifted septet, plays at or above their best level and which (for whatever the reason), pressure, fatigue, fouls, does not.

And the answer is…I do not have a clue and I imagine neither does Geno.

Just imagine each individual's finest moments…Bria's and Kiah's Stanford game (you don't have to back far for them), Stewie's dismantling of ND and go from there imagining every kid stepping up to her best level.

Now if Geno can pull that off on Friday, wouldn't that be something?

And I wouldn't bet against it.

It's not that simple. There are really 3 choices: putting in bench player 1, putting in bench player 2, or staying with the present 5 players on the floor!

Md is going after Stef and Stewie from the get go and get them into foul trouble

Yeah, well., we're going after their bigs and get them into foul trouble. Nyah, nyah nyah.

So much depends on the refs!

To take that a step further, having seven scholarship players makes things very interesting as they adjust to the enforcement of these new defensive rules. It is more important than ever that Uconn avoids silly fouls.

Fouls are the key. There are only two bench players. If no one gets in foul trouble we should win both games. That is a big if given how close fouls are being called this year.

OK, if you want get serious, there are a total of 21 combination possible for a team of 7 players - max and min of 5 on the court at one time. There are more if less than 5 players are allowed. So, realistically, Geno may have 21 choices to make at any one time.

Oooh, someone knows his combinations! Are you as good with permutations? General probability questions? Color me impressed regardless.

I would guess that there will be a lot of 3 guards/2 inside players on the floor.

4 guards for the 3 spots: Bria, MoJeff, Brianna and Saniya.
3 inside players for 2 spots: Stewie, Stef and Kiah.

Lots of zone defense to protect against fouling?

Now that might not be a bad idea. We'll see if Geno has to (or decides) to employ a zone. That will be something to look for. Nice job Blake.

Against top 10 or 15 maybe, but they will see plenty of playing time against lesser opponents. I don't think Geno wants to risk another injury.
I was specifically talking about the Maryland game.
