I was discussing this with my brother trying to figure who had the best single season in UConn history. Of course stats but also Tourney runs, and other season accomplishments.

I want to say Emeka's 2003-2004 junior year. Defensive Player of the Year, Big East Player of the Year, and leading the nation in blocked shots during his junior year. Okafor was named the Academic All-American of the Year in 2004 for his work on and off the court!

Oh and 1st team All American that year. And he still graduated a year early with a Championship Ring. He was on a loaded team, but still shined above all the other NBAers on that team.

Can anyone think of a UConn player with a better season?

Calhoun era, it has to be between Okafor and Walker, but I'll say Kemba had the best individual season at UConn, especially given the fact that his team started unranked and he led UConn to it's third national championship:

1543 minutes (Most in a single season)
37.6 MPG (Most in a single season)
965 points (Most in a single season)
23.5 points per game (4th behind Wes B., Tony Hanson & Donyell)
316 FGs (Most in a single season)
258 FTs (Most in a single season)

NCAA champion
NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player
Consensus first team All-American
Bob Cousy Award
Big East Tournament MVP
NCAA Final Four All-Tournament Team
Maui Invitational Tournament MVP

How the hell did Ben Hansbrough win BE Player of the Year?

And how did Jimmer win the Naismith trophy? I guess they don't count any post season achievements when considering these awards. Anyone with a brain knows that Kemba had the best season out of anyone in the country after watching the runs in the BE Tourny and the NCAA Championship

Well now that you put it that way. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . must you always be so factual?

The answer is Kemba. If it's just regular season, Donyell and Caron are up there. Okafor was great, but played hurt a bunch of the year.

Its definitely Kemba as great as Emeka and Rip were they had a great number 2 in Ben and Khalid. Emeka and Rip could afford to come out of the game to get a rest or sit out a game and the team could still win some games i.e. Stanford without Rip, first 2 BE tourney games in 04 without Emeka. Kemba didnt have that luxury, could you imagine how the team would have looked if Kemba had to sit out a game, or even come out for a rest.

other great seasons in no particular order
Emeka 04
Rip 99
Shabazz 14 (I will give him some credit for the 13 season because it was a 2 year plan)
Caron 02
Ray 96
Donyell 94

Politics.

This would be a great sports trivia question for CBB die-hards... who won BE POY in 2011. Everyone EXCEPT UConn or ND fans would get it wrong.

Someone pointed out that during Emeka's great year, he was also the academic POY and graduated a year early. Iirc, Kemba also graduated a year early in 2011, in addition to anything mentioned above.

My viewing goes back to about 1980. Kemba and Donyell Marshall. Kemba for being Mr. Clutch, Donyell for doing it all, except the clutch part.
