Rather than blaming the refs for losing the game how about we talk about our performance. Here are my grades for the players and coach.

Hurley - D minus. If you complain about every call you won't get any calls. His T cost us this game.
Johnson - F. If it could be any lower it would be.
Karaban - C. Has turned into a strictly 3 pt shooter. Our first team all American should have done more to lead the pups.
McNeeley - D+. Had him for a D minus until he made the 2 three's. Didn't rebound and played poor defense. Threw up prayers on his drives to the basket. Seems to shy away from contact.
Ball - D+. made the big shot. What else? Got torched on D
Mahaney - D minus. We need more from our starting point guard. Waits too long to initiate the offense. Poor D, again
Reed - A+. Turning into our best player.
Diarra - B+. Almost willed us to victory.
Stewart - A. Why didn't he play more in the 2nd half? Hurley said he looked "skittish". Maybe if he was not looking over his shoulder so much. Afraid to make a mistake.
Ross - D. Did nothing. What happened to the player that in practice looked like our best player. Really needs to play better D

I know it is a long season and the ceiling is high, we will get better as we get more experience, this will not be the only bump in the road. My biggest concern is that other than Reed and Diarra we look like a soft team.
Our players complain way too much about the calls, show them a better example Dan Hurley.

No way Liam, Ball, Karaban score that low. Karaban was consistent, Ball and Liam were limited to foul trouble minutes. Karaban gets a A-minimum. Ball and Liam with their limited minutes did what they had to. Both B-.

Hurley should have played Stewart more and guarded the 3 point better. That's where I knock him.

Johnson and AM I agree with and should not be starting.

This was a dud all around. Reed was a very important "discovery" though, so not all is lost.

I am higher on Alex than a C, mostly because of his passing.

Ball - Feels like he gets every single foul called against him. This game probably started to spiral when he picked up 2 early. He needs to be on the court to get defensive reps more than anything. If he's not good defensively, we probably will be mediocre on that end as a team.

The rest is hard to argue. It's hard to see where we will end up being a top 10 defensive team that is a requisite for winning a championship.

The most frustrating thing about Mahaney was that he is a half step slow in our offense. There were plenty of times when guys flashed open and he missed or didn't see it. Everything is just too slow for him right now. A summer of practice and five games in is now a trend. I did like some drives early on by him that he failed to finish though. We need that penetration.

I think if we can stabilize the PG spot we have a chance to score a ton. We can really shoot it. Hate counting on having to score in the 80s, but if thats how this year needs to be, we'll need to embrace it.

Holy Christmas I’m glad you’re not my teacher

This consistent slander of Mahaney has to stop. Go back and read the entire thread on when Taris Reed committed here. Half of you felt he wasn’t worthy and UConn could do better. Now look at you. Maybe, just maybe, the staff knows what they have in Mahaney that most of you don’t. I get the disappointment. I thought he would have adjusted quicker, but there is a reason why the staff is sticking with him. Trust them. I can’t wait how the same people slamming him now will be applauding the staff and Mahaney in a month or two.

Karaban had 19 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds and went 4-8 from 3
Diarra was 1-6 from the field played a badfirst half, came back went to line late 3 TO most on team
Otherwise I concur

I get that. And everybody deserves a trophy I guess. Most people are complaining about a C for Karaban. C is average. That was an average game - for him. 19, 6 and only 4 rebounds. I guess I have high standards.

Foul trouble is sub standard work. Sorry

Hope you are correct, but I don't see it....and by the way, it's libel on here, not slander, but only if it's false...truth is an absolute defense

If you use EvanMiya stats, Ball is UConn's worst defender followed by Mahaney. You can't have your starting backcourt be that weak defensively and they need to step it up.
