Did I miss something? I've been away the last couple days and only checked out the Yard sparingly.

You didn't, as far as I can tell. The only things I've heard related to Purvis were comments that he's staying.

Obviously returning isn't helping you. Some rumors he might test the water but he has tweeted he's coming back.

What exactly was the rationale for Pitt getting an invite to the ACC? They bring in that dynamic Pittsburgh TV market?
Football. Football trumps all other sports combined in this. Pitt's not Alabama, but let's be honest, they have a pretty good history, enough that ND had them in their regular rotation, including playing home and away, and more players in the Pro Football Hall Of Fame than all but 3 programs. They are at least seen as taking football seriously, which is important when you're trying to keep FSU, and Clemson happy. Same goes for Syracuse. Ditka, Dorsett, Marino, Larry Fitzgerald, Darrelle Revis, Jim Brown, Larry Csonka, Donovan McNabb, and Marvin Harrison carries a lot more weight with FSU, than Ray Allen, and Kimba Walker do. If UConn had been playing at the major college level for 100 years, they'd already be in the Big 10.

F FSU and F the ACC - football talks? what the hell does the ACC have to brag about football? an isolated year from Clemson and FSU hasn't brought much lately except a quarterback who degraded women in many ways and the program and the community both lied and turned their back on the whole affair - yeah football is more important than basic morality. Take your pompous preaching elsewhere
Ray Allen, Kemba Walker, Bazz and all the others mean more and carry more weight than FSU football
How the hell do you know where UConn would be? Notice you don't want to see UConn in the ACC
Syracuse has had pretty good football history but nothing in the past 30 years - what allows them the P5?
Keep FSU and Clemson happy? These two programs would bolt the ACC in two seconds if someone created a different football conference.

Yep. For all the hand-wringing about Pitt turning down the ESPN BE offer and the douchenozzle at BC stating they want to be New England's college, it did really come down to FSU and Clemson at the end of the day, and they chose Pitt over us.

I'll give Pitt a couple of things - their TV market is larger than NH-Hartford and they own the metro comfortably over PSU. Certainly a bigger market than Wake or Clemson deliver. And you never hear Pitt fans bring up their own two Helms banners when discussing their football history.

But during the Edsall years from 04-10, Pitt and Cuse were essentially our equals on the field, not our superiors. It was all about football history and perception.

100% true. UConn fans don't have to like it, I know I wouldn't, but FSU, and Clemson have the clout in the ACC in football. Without them, the league would be the AAC. Football drives the bus. Syracuse, and Pitt aren't powerhouses, but they're looked at long term as mid level programs, like Cal, or UCLA. FSU could stomach them, the didn't want a school known only for hoops. The B1G taking Rutgers is the one that really ought to upset you. I guess the AAU thing was what gave them the edge.

The fact that when Texas, and Oklahoma were looking at the PAC12, Kansas was at risk of being left high and dry, ought to tell you all you need to know about Basketball's place in the equation.

Does Jeter get a waiver to leave, we could use him.

Already got about half their fans. Nice nice
Their football program still does have a LOT of fans. Definitely not a bad idea for Pitt to emphasize football given that.

Yeah, just not many of them show up.

Presumably he's a grad transfer. He had the year at Vanderbilt, a transfer year, and two at Pitt. If he's academically on track, he should be ready to play next year.

If the program becomes a consistent winner, fans will show up. Easily. Western PA?

Hard to compete with the Steelers. Pitt territory is confined to Pittsburgh, and contiguous counties. The Steelers draw from Penn St. Ohio St. WVU, and Maryland territories. Pitt draws from a much smaller geographic space, which is why they average in the 40s, while the Steelers have been sold out since 1972. Of course winning has a lot to do with it too.

College football obviously provides an alternate to the pro game, considering the pro game is definitely more expensive. The Steelers have been around since the 1930s and started to taste success once they moved to the AFC in 1970, obviously. Whatever works, I suppose. We'll have to see how things go for Pitt. This is definitely not a promising basketball move. But also seems no one wants to go up against the HoFers in the ACC right now. Freaking Mark Price (at the freaking Charlotte 49ers right now of the C-USA) turned down his alma mater, Georgia Tech, just yesterday.

How? He's not a fit for this roster at all. We have plenty of combo forwards already.

Yeah. What our team could use right now at forward is a Kevin Freeman type. And Jeter is not that.

Looks like Pitt recruit Corey Manigault (Earl's nephew) will be given release and is looking at Maryland. 6'8"/245 3* PF who bangs inside. Obviously wouldn't have the polish of Shonn Miller, but could give a different look than our current 4s.

Wasn't BC the reason it was Pitt/UCanada instead of UConn/UCanada?
Yep. @storrsroars and @A10 fan wrote interesting narratives, but most of us think that BC was afraid of UConn because of it's rapid rise in football along with UConn's dominance in bb. They probably felt UConn would ultimately dominate in football recruiting (they have similar recruiting areas) going head to head. Defillipo was on record as to blocking UConn. Stupid move since rivalries end up supporting teams more than hurting teams and BC was UConn's New England rivalry.
It was only later that the ACC was pressured into accepting Ville over UConn supposedly because of Clemson and FSU. But there is some evidence that it could have been a sweetheart deal for Swofford's kid.
