Holy moly. Trailed 46-14 at one point in the first half and still trailed by 31 at halftime.

According to the box score the SMU starters played 38, 37, 31, 29 & 29 mins. How in creation do the same players who scored 48 the first half score 0 in the 3rd quarter, Thats bound to be a record.

A team scored 30+ points in one quarter and zero in another quarter might be the most insane stat line I've seen. That has to be the first time that has ever happened.

I didn't think this was real at first! HOW does a team not score a single point in the third quarter while giving up 28 to a team that they were obliterating in the first half????

Honestly... there are companies that are hired to do forensic audits of betting lines to look for anything suspicious. This is so exceptionally unusual that I bet they're working overtime right now. I otherwise cannot explain such absurdity.

If anything like that were to be going on, zero surprise that it would involve $MU.

Another record to drop: first to go from major conference reinstatement to death penalty in under a season.

I laughed but then I realized that they'd just sue the NCAA and probably win the right to fix games along with everything else Daddy Warbucks bought for them.

Yeah as I was writing it was I thinking, "today's NCAA probably doesn't have the authority to audit their accounts, let alone invoke the death penalty." Damn it's a dark world we live in in 2025...

I know what you mean. Do I actually think it was betting related? No, but scoring 0 points in a quarter, and allowing Pitt of all teams to score 54 in a half after you had shut them down for the previous half? It almost defies comprehension.

I’ve seen many games in my life where things snowball from bad to worse and decision making breaks down, team cohesion breaks down. I didn’t watch this game but it seems like this may have been an extreme example of that.

I mean really, would there have been enough betting interest in SMU vs Pitt womens bball to bother with buying off players to throw the game? I have a hard time believing that could possibly be true.

First there is little betting action on women's basketball during this part of the year unless they are big name teams. Second in the 2017-18 season Notre Dame had a 23 point comeback and a 37 point swing over Tennessee. There was another last season.

The point is comebacks happen without any nefarious intent. Here are the 40 largest and nothing happened to these teams. Basketball is a game of runs and some are larger than others.

"Betting interest" is not the same thing as general fan interest. Betting occurs on all sorts of contests, and fixing scandals have been uncovered in some of the most obscure confines. The tennis match-fixing scandals of recent years are but one example.

I'm suddenly thinking of the movie "Rat Race" with a bunch of tycoons that will bet on literally ANYTHING.

This is clearly the Rocky IV strategy of allowing yourself to get hit in the face multiple times to "get angry", then unleashing all of the power that you have built up by carrying logs in the snow, and winning the fight. Duh.
