Pitino to Nova? | Page 2 | The Boneyard

Pitino to Nova?

Why is Xavier considered a better destination than Villanova? Let's ask our Wildcat friends.
Administration dropped the ball. Pitino wanted to get started ASAP in the portal, Villanova dragged its feet to see if Willard would rethink if his leverage play failed at MD.

If Willard ends up staying, Villanova is screwed. Crazy to think they fired their coach, burned Plan A, and are waiting on a prayer for Plan B.

Their fanbase is very accustomed to that vibe. I live close to Nova and work less than 5 minutes away. Everyone with a Nova sticker on their car drives a Lexus or the like. I go to most Nova UConn games and the Nova fans all look like they’re about to go golfing afterwards. That may be their past, but Jay Wright is their identity.

After one UConn victory at Nova, UConn fans were cheering and some Nova fans started chanting safety school (despite UConn being ranked higher than them at the time academically). They care a lot about feeling superior to everyone else, morally and otherwise.
What's wrong with driving a Lexus? I have 2 and I am a 2x UConn grad! One for each degree?

lol nothing, it just fits the country club vibe that Villanova students/grads exude. One piece of a larger puzzle. There’s nothing wrong with it. Calhoun drove a Lexus too, I know because he almost hit me with it once.

My point previously was just that I didn’t think a Pitino fit the culture of Villanova. Apparently I was right.

What is this whole country club squeaky clean Nova image thing? Their coaches were Rollie Massimino and Steve Lappas before Jay Wright.
Well for one, that's what 20 years of Wright will do. But also, it's a rich person school in general. It's on the Main Line outside Philly. Median home in Radnor is 1.4 million.

And it looks like that prayer’s not coming true — some big Maryland boosters are tweeting that they’re confident Willard is staying.

Who does Nova turn to next? I honestly can’t come up with a name.

What does the home price in Radnor have to do with the students at Villanova? I don't know how many students at Villanova are from the Main Line but I'd have to imagine it's a very small percentage.

The median home price in Chestnut Hill, MA, which is right around Boston College, is about $2.3 million but I doubt that has much to do with the rich students at BC.
The area in which a school is located very often has an impact on the culture at the school itself (and vice versa). It's less to do with the students, either way, and more to do with the administration.

I deleted my post because it wasn't worth discussing.

I know where it is, I almost went there. I had no idea their student body consisted of Radnor kids.

If they hire Willard, Collins or Mick would they fit their rich country club image? They're all rich. Willard and Collins grew up with a lot of money because their dads were college/NBA coaches but so did Pitino. Has Nova really become a rich country club school since the 2000's? Were they a blue color OTB crowd when they hired Rollie and Lappas?

Lexus driving beer-belly country club types. Sounds about as grease-ball slimy as they come. I'll take UConn over nova any day.

Doesn't seem to me to be a good long term fit. Xavier over the years has had coaches leave for better jobs. Hell Miller left twice. Fool me once... Both Pitino's jump from job to job without showing a lot of loyalty. It shows you how lucky UConn has been to have coaches that have been loyal to the school Calhoun, Hurley and Geno all have turned down offers to leave.

Try and re-lure Mosier or Collins? Both kind of weren’t interested a week ago and in my opinion are not great hires at all.

Re-hire Neptune!?

Porter Moser seems to be their plan C, which would be pretty uninspiring

'Nova is a prep school grads' default, at least east of the Mississippi, when Catholic kids crap out on Georgetown, ND and even BC. In CT, the dreaded fallback is Fairfield U. Same order, same general curriculum as Villanova. Tons of Fairfield County 'Nova tee shirts in summer.

We must live somewhat close to one another.

I’m relatively new to the area but one thing I’ve learned is that Nova claims to be a gritty Philly school but it’s far, far from it. They’re more Jay Wright and his tailored suits than Rollie Massimino and his wackiness nowadays.

Maybe it's just me but I would have thought both X and V could do better than this.
