I am sure Piath and her family put a lot of thought into finding the right school to transfer to. UMass is a solid mid-major, close to home, where Piath should get an opportunity to play. The Minutewomen finished 26-7 last season, winning their conference and played ND tough in the first round of the Big Dance. Best wishes to Piath and her new team.

After sitting on the end of UConn's bench for 2 years, no doubt the opportunity to play had to be a very large consideration in choosing her next program. The fact that UMass is only 56 miles from her Manchester New Hampshire home may have also played a small part. Her family/friends can attend every home game. You can never discount having family/friends sitting behind your bench at every home game. Plus that close to home, she'll never get home sick. ;) Best of luck to her.

Happy for Piath and wish her well. Also hopefully able to see some of her games.

Amherst is a definite upgrade from Storrs. Amherst is a cute little town with lots of amenities for students.
No attack at a possible UConn fan, just say'n .... It's a basketball forum and Amherst is a upgrade from Storrs ??? Maybe for a non athlete.
The Mohawk Trail was never mentioned being missed by the multiple all Americans and WNBA players that have passed through Storrs.
Actually they get to go to places like Italy and The Bahamas. Not too shabby and Storrs for those that have not been in years is now way beyond a cow farm.
Glad Piath has found a fit for her but imagine it is more about playing time than campus location. I wish her well.
How do you know that no P5 school would take her? Are you privy to the factors that went into her decision?
Some folks on the forum know everything, you have to accept that and take it with a grain of salt. ;)

This sounds like a win-win for both Piath & the Minutewomen.
They've signed at least 2 more new players for '22-'23 and Piath will also have a teammate from Manchester, NH.

Nice to see Piath finding a spot to continue playing basketball. She didn't go far but as a place for a college kid to be for a few years, Amherst is a definite upgrade from Storrs. Amherst is a cute little town with lots of amenities for students. For hanging out purposes there are two other colleges in town, Amherst and Hampton. A short drive across the river gets you to Northampton and Smith College. Just up I-91 is Greenfield and the entrance to the Mohawk Trail (Rt 2) which is a lovely drive and gets you to the western Mass hills. All in all a great place to spend your college years. Enjoy Piath and do good!
It's Hampshire College, and don't forget Mt. Holyoke.

Been meaning to get to some UMass games, especially since they have greatly improved over the last few years. Tory Verdi has turned things around, picking up transfers who have really helped the program. More incentive now to cross the river, with Piath there.

UMass played Fairfield University last season, holding Senechal to just eight points on 3 for 12 shooting.

I'll bet that Gabriel becomes a star there. She played wel later in the season for UConn, showing aggression under the basket when she got into games. But Coach Geno made clear that she did not have a future with Connecticut.

She could make some noise with UMass. Will be interesting to watch.
