Phil Steele predicts big improvement for our offense this year

I've thought that every off season for the better part of a decade.

The only time we had even a semblance of a legitimate offense was the first half of 2007 and the second half of 2010.

I wonder how many other fan bases in the country are basing their hope for the new season on the head coach and his longtime crony staying out of the new offensive coordinator's way?

I think we will be a better offense. As poor as the OL play was last season it showed improvement in the second half of the season. I think Whitmer will be very solid and in Davis and Phillips he has two good targets. The running game has to be more effective and it is my hope upon hope that we find a back to compliment McCombs. The McQuillan kid has to step up at TE too.

Statistically speaking, it is much easier to show a massive improvement when your base performance was minimal. I think we get the benefit of that in both our running yards and scoring averages...

I'm with you. I've predicted it for quite some time. I've been burned enough times that I'm not going to predict it anymore. That being said I think we'll finally turn the corner this year and put together an offense that ranks in the top half of 1A. That's the most frustrating part of this. I'm not even asking for a great offense, just a competent one.

Has there ever been a chant of an offensive coordinator's name in college football? If UCONN's offense can show some level of competency, I'd love to hear some "TJ Weist!" chants go up.

I'd love to hear it too but lets see if this guy runs up the middle every 1st down before we build him a statue.

Pretty sure that would be a sign that TJ is not in control of the offense.

I feel your pain.

My #1 fear.

We'll find out pretty early how much autonomy Weist has. No-huddle/hurry up will be clue No. 1. Use of screens/short passes No. 2.

Said it before: gotta figure Weist extracted some promises from Warde that he would be able to do his thing Weist had a front-row seat at last year's season-ending debacle at the Rent. No one in his right mind would switch sidelines just so they can blow up their career and go down in flame with the SS PP.

Still curious what the chain of custody is on play calls will be and if GDL is going to be in the loop.
