Sure, it's still early in the spring signing period, but we still don't have a true pure point guard. Adams is the only thing close to a PG on this upcoming team, and he could even be considered a 2. Terrence Samuel will never be a ball handling, floor general PG, and Purvis seems to play best off the ball.

We missed out severely on Trey Lewis- an experienced ball handler and above average 3 PT shooter. It hurts even more that L'ville snatched him.

This team won't be much different next year, and I don't think Adams is necessarily an upgrade over Boatright at this point (he has a ton of upside, but he's still going to be a freshman). We are banking on Purvis, Hamilton and Brimah improving greatly to lead us to the tourney, but that's hard to see since our offense was so stagnant most of 2014-15.

Anybody know of potential fifth year transfer, floor general PGs that could make an impact? We could also really use a 3 PT specialist and another small forward. Coming off a championship just a year ago, there's no excuses for Ollie to roll into next season with 3 open scholarships (extremely unlikely he would do that). Otherwise, this team won't be much different from last year, and there's only so many options for a "veteran" PG that can come in immediately and make an impact ...

There is already an entire thread titled roughly "What potential grad transfers are available?"

for this yarder, the redundancy on this board of late has been dizzying.

Dude's first post, we can be a bit more helpful yes?

Welcome Ray,

Here's the thread. I think it was off the main page so its understandable you missed it. Pay attention to the colored recruiting tags on thread titles, they key you to potential guys coming in, and there is a search function in the top right you can use to cross reference discussions on guys we're looking at.

Also, use twitter! Search Uconn Transfer and you'll get a bunch of info.

Welcome Ray!!! Make sure you wear your mouthpiece and cup around here. Things are a bit chippy here due to the issues you posted . Things should settle down once we add a couple of recruits for next season.

not necessarily an upgrade? He is most assuredly a big downgrade from boat. I'm excited about Adams' potential, but to think he can come in and be anywhere near as productive as boat was this year is setting yourself up for a huge disappointment

I agree we are thin at PG but I don't see us picking up another one before the season starts. I think we'll get Shonn Miller from Cornell and I have a feeling that'll be it. Ollie needs to develop Cassell, Samuel, and Adams to be true PG's to allow Purvis and Hamilton to play off the ball. Matter of fact, I could see Ollie using a lineup of Cassell/Samuel, Adams, Purvis, Hamilton, and Brimah a lot. That would allow Adams and Purvis to play off the ball while Hamilton would be our 4. So Cassell and Samuel really need to improve their ball handling this offseason in order for us to be successful.

Newbie got to give him a pass or instructions, along with a one time welcome.

Welcome to the Board. Based on the title of your first thread I just knew you needed to be welcomed.

As a point guard? Really? I think one of the fundamental problems this season stemmed from the fact that Boatright is an undersized shooting guard. He really never orchestrated the offense. I'd be surprised if Adams isn't a better PG. Not better player, better PG.

Who was Boat supposed to orchestrate? Purvis took 2/3 of the season to catch on. Hamilton created most of his own shots. Brimah could slam dunk. End of story.

Adams is a scoring guard playing point guard too.

Thanks- I have been reading threads on here for a while, and I've lived in Storrs my whole life- just thought I'd give it a go, but must've missed that previous thread. I sense a lot of saltiness around here, it's tough when we haven't won a title for a whole year. My point was hopes should be slightly mitigated because I don't see much changing for next year. Adams is raw/unknown, Purvis is wildly inconsistent, D-Ham lacks confidence/aggression, Brimah still has a long way to go IMO, Calhoun's never been the same since surgery, and everyone else are average role players. Feels like a rebuilding-ish year (here's to hoping everyone comes back for the following season). Plus, it always seems like something special happens when expectations are low...

@RayIsTheGOAT yea I was giving you the benefit of the doubt. I would say next year has a wide range of outcomes that mostly rest on the compentency of Adams and the growth of Brimah.

You never feel great when the keys to the car are in the hands of a true freshman, but on the flip side all signs point to him as an explosive athlete with natural on ball skills and vision. If he plays within himself and keeps turnovers down we have plenty of experienced pieces around him to feel good.

Your focus is correct though, we look to be addressing our need at the 4 with either Miller or Harris, but a secondary ball handler is feeling like a big question mark. Maybe T Sam grows into a jumper and becomes our best bet.

We've had a very good recent history with these type of guards, and none of them have been 6'2/6'3. Don't look at this post and think I'm saying he'll be better than them, just we haven't had a PG with his size + attributes recently.

I feel a lot better than most people here about next season. We return every important player from this season (minus the most important), and there should be a decent jump in development with Dham, Brimah and Purvis at full health over the summer. Of course I would love to see us fill the 3 wide open scholarships we have banked for no reason whatsoever but I'm not allowed to bring that up here. Add Shonn Miller and we are top 25 good next year.

College basketball starts and ends at the point though. It's rare for a true frosh to come in and run a team. That's the frustrating part of our current cycle, last year we had the 1 but the pieces weren't ready. Next year I think we'll have a complete team 2-5 that won't achieve its potential because our 1 is learning on the job. Think about 2012 what we had around a Sophmore bazz.

I definitely see your comparison with 2012 and the PG concern and it's very valid point to bring up. I have a lot of optimism because I think Adams is going to be an absolute monster for is. I'm not a scout and I don't watch AAU games but I just have a feeling.

You have to be pretty stupid to think that Boatright can't play point guard just because he played next to another point guard for three years.

He's a winner, and when you look at scouting reports that was stands out to me the most. I said before when he committed and I stand by the fact that he's the most important recruit we've landed since Drummond.

Adams is a PG because if he isn't who the hell is? And it would be nice to have another.
