Thought this alignment on the board is quite telling of our fanbase and expectations.
May we continue to commiserate over greatness.

A Boneyard classic. One thread is about how we are basically slumping and kinda suck. The other is how we are now the #2 team in the country and perhaps a couple of injuries away from being undefeated and #1.

In some ways, the championship runs of tourney team 23 and more or less the entire year 24 have "ruined" this team in the eyes of some of the BY brethren. This is not a team that's going to blow people out or make you go "whoa." It doesn't have the offensive efficiency (yet?) or explosiveness (save a Mullins 8-0 spurt here or there). It's a more workmanlike team that wins and has already shown it can win ugly (Kansas, GTown), cruise (pick your game), or put points on the board (PC, BYU)

Enjoy the ride. The NIL era makes most of our teams from here on out a one-year entity.

I think that any poster to the Boneyard must first become a season ticket holder of Mississippi Valley State for a year. This perspective of "bad" college basketball will result in a deep appreciation of what it means to hold the title of being a UConn fan.
I might recommend, for folks in Connecticut, become a fan of Sacred Heart. They are a program dedicated to getting better, year over

We don’t even have to look outward. Our 2017-19 stretch wasn’t THAT long ago. Losing to Wagner and Northeastern back-to-back and being down 38-12 to Houston at home at the half. And other lowlights.

But those teams mostly inspired indifference. With high expectations sometimes comes hand-wringing. I still remember mass freaking out when the 1998-99 team didn’t play well in an exhibition against Martahon Oil. We were a very angsty fanbase then. Or the 2003-04 team being tied with Yale at the half.

Right now, I think we know we’re good but we haven’t seen our team’s ceiling. That game where we hit a championship level … except for maybe the first 30 against BYU. I think the 2022-23 team showed it against Alabama and Iowa State in Oregon, and the following year we saw it at home against Xavier and Marquette. You can grind out 3 or 4 tough wins and get a natty, but if you can give yourself margin for error, a guy getting hot late (à la Clayton) can’t knock you out.

Satisfaction and contentment breeds complacency.

Always need the attitude that we can improve, no matter where we stand.
Correct. It’s all about perspective.

Two things can be true: we haven’t played exceptionally well based on our standards and we are still one of the best teams in the country.

I tend to be ENCOURAGED by that. Haven’t hit on all cylinders and we’re still 18-1.

You have high expectations and expect improvement, but also recognize that we are still elite. Those things CAN happen at the same time. I'd love to see us shoot it better, worry about Solo, worry about Tarris being a black hole, and Malachi dribbling so much in a set that the ball loses air.

I can also see that we are excellent defensively, have explosive tendencies, run really good stuff that is still very difficult to defend, and are relentless to combat over 40 minutes.

I don't think we are entering "our January slump." I think we are going through the expected ebbs and flows of college basketball.

UConn is a big target and I'm guessing a number of conference foes view their home game against us as their "Super Bowl". I dont expect to steamroll everyone. I do think we will have a couple "A" games where we finally will fire on all cylinders. Karaban, Demary, Ball, Mullins, and Reed Jr. all have the capability of scoring 20 plus on any given night. Most fan bases would love to have our "problems".

It's easy to get tickets. BC's home attendance averages 4400, but I don't know if that is actual attendance or sold / free tickets.
Sure they average 4,400. If you include the students that remain in their dorm rooms.

While I agree with you - I think we would be most teams Super Bowl in most conferences. Ranted 2- if you are playing the #11 team that’s lots of motivation for opponents.
The BE helps us (as others have pointed out) because of the physical nature of BE play and the fact the refs have their whistle in their pocket. When we get to the tournament we actually can run our sets on offense without constantly being mugged.

We are number 2 in the country, and we're not playing out best, we are in a slump

Both statements are true. It's a long season

I believe we will right the ship and play better in February & March, like we do every year.

Does anyone think we'll win a championship in March / April if we play like we played against Georgetown or PC or any game in January? That should be a rhetorical question

I'm somewhat amused by how many people misread my intention, although I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. It is the WWW (just checked, it appears far more understood what I was saying than not. Apologies to the Yard)
