OT: Penny Hardaway “Serious Candidate” for Orlando Magic Head Coaching Role

Always thought he'd end up in the NBA sooner than later.

He's made to coach at the non-collegiate level. With better talent in the NBA, I wouldn't be surprised if he succeeds.

Slightly OT, but this tweet below came totally out of the blue to me re: Memphis’ recruiting.

On a serious note, he would be a much better fit in the NBA than in college. I think it would be worthwhile for him to take an NBA job if it’s offered to him.

On a different note, I think it would be absolutely hilarious if he left Memphis to rot in the AAC

I really dislike the guy and he's proven nothing as a coach. He's had stacked teams and has still yet to make the tournament.

I assume they were making it in 2020 no?

Reminiscent of KO's link to the Lakers (sans championship). I would take the job if it was offered. He may not keep the job at Memphis as long as he thinks if they don't improve.

Hardaway has had a modest degree of success at Memphis. He hasn't reached the NCAA Tournament, but in three years, he has never won fewer than 20 games and has a total record of 63-32, a better record than his predecessor at Memphis, Tubby Smith, who won a national championship at Kentucky.

Seems like this would have disaster written all over it. Based on his time in Memphis, he can recruit and that's about it. He hasn't shown much in terms of in-game coaching.

I’m guessing his agent threw his name to a friendly reporter.

PR nonsense.
