Actually for more detail - the one advantage Uconn professor's (and maybe all employee's) children had was that they were treated as 'in-state' for all other NE state schools - a reciprical arrangement among the states. Not sure if that still exists - my knowledge is 35 years out of date!

For eligible UConn employees, a waiver of tuition is extended to dependent children who are matriculated and enrolled undergraduate students at UConn. These waivers apply to the Fall and Spring semesters only. Please remember the tuition waivers waive only the tuition. The student remains responsible for any mandatory fees and non-tuition charges.

Effective the Fall 2008 semester, employees are required to complete the on-line Dependent Tuition Waiver application available at http://dtw.uconn.edu. Employees must complete a form each semester. The deadlines for completing your waiver application are June 1st for the Fall semester or November 15th for Spring.

Woops - thanks for correcting me. Pretty sure that was not true back in my day - but then semester tuition for in-state residents was a heck of a lot less back in those days.
