That's too bad. I thought that was a "fun" game. They scored more on UConn than anyone else. But, they've only won 1/3 of their PAC-10 games and at around 50% overall. The administration may want more of a winner, but not every coach can have a winning record. I wonder what their attendance was like? Because of their run and gun style, the games were probably more exciting than a Villanova style. If they are drawing well, then maybe they should have hired a recruiter that would get players to maximize his style of play to get them more successful, rather than firing the coach.

Had a thread about situation back in January and the PAC posters chimed in. Westhead was not popular there, last season was a real disaster when injuries left him with players incapable of doing the run-and-gun, and the attendance was way down from glory years of past. Apparently he wasn't around much during the off season and didn't connect with the fans. Definitely not a surprise, and it would have been a shock if he hadn't gone.

But they'd give up 160 per game. Well, it would certainly be fun to watch.

He is also 75 years old. Not exactly a prime age for a coach.

Not a surprise based on that previous thread's intelligence re him and the fan base not being simpatico. And it points out the flaw in Debbie Antonelli's offense sells mantra and her joy at seeing a WCBB team averaging close to 100/gm - you still have to play good basketball! 'Showtime' in LA only worked because the Lakers were also winning all the time, the players were great, and they knew how to play defense - showtime with a 15-14 record isn't as much fun. And while they end the year with the highest scoring offense, they also had the worst scoring defense out of 343 D1 teams at 89.2/game - scoring margin +4.1 ranked 112th.
