Clarification: there is NO real defense... And PP is a massive failure thus far. That said, we have no alternative, except hoping he succeeds this season and supporting the program. If we have another 5 or sub 5 W season, there should be not a single soul supporting this clown. If he does have a good season, then we have to hope its not an aberration and something sustainable.
In a (
cliche coming!) "result oriented world," PP's UCONN record would, and probably will, get him gone. And, he'll be the happiest man in CT. Truth be told he is the absolute wrong man/wrong place/wrong time. I think SH and WM realize this. I think the only reason he coached and is still coaching is that SH didn't feel like trying to sell another severance (Hathaway, Calhoun) arrangement to the Trustees.
He probably remains a good, solid coach. He knows football. His skill-set just hasn't been updated to deal with an environment that requires equal parts FB coach, salesman, PR guy and huckster........the ESPN/Talk Radio generation; or to be the Athletic Dept's savoir. ON TV, PP comes across as just a guy; neither appealing or unappealing.
Look at Kevin Ollie in comparison. He's an appealing, energetic walking UCONN commercial who never misses a chance to tout both his school and program. And, he's looks to be a hell of a coach. Right now, the school needs the same from its FB coach and, I'm sorry, but I don't think PP will ever be the right fit. It's something that shouldn't happen to good people. But it does.
