Has PP joined the Boneyard and is now known as Tusky? Or could the post be from one of the half-dozen third-rate high school football coaches in Connecticut who still view PP as the greatest thing to hit football coaching since Lombardi? There is no question in my mind UConn would be in a P5 conference if PP had not destroyed an excellent football program. I believe he did the same at Syracuse. He may have reminded some of the players of their fathers or grandfathers, but he never should have been hired by UConn in the first place. My only real gripe with Warde Manuel is that he didn't fire PP in his first year as FB coach. No matter how nice the guy is, understand PP was the reason for UConn's terrible performance for years. It came close to being the worst ranked FBS football program in the nation.

Likely, but Cheshire Academy recently appears to have enhanced recruiting higher quality 4 year and possibly PG players. Anyone recall many Cheshire Academy players being recruited by 1-A/FBS programs? Other than possibly existing relationships, nothing about Pepperoni or Addazio should impede Diaco and UConn recruiting and succeeding in signing some Cheshire Academy players and other similar schools' players.

I can't believe that I find myself in the unenviable position of defending the guy, but objectively, he did a very nice job in CT recruiting. People tend to forget that he was responsible for landing Arkeel Newsome, Noel Thomas, Casey Cochran, Tim Boyle (when we thought he had great potential), Tommy Myers, Matt Walsh, and even CT prep kids like Rutherford and McAllister.

He brought talent here and I still respect him as a recruiter, especially in this state. Diaco did a nice job this past year and grabbed 4 of our top 10 in CT and BC got zero. Winning always helps do that. I hope the trend stays that way...

I don't follow the Academy because I did not know many locals who went there (most when to Choate instead) nor people who worked there. Now that I have a few minutes, I do remember the High School team scrimmaging them in the '80's and '90's (under Addazio) and it was not a contest along the line, in reverse, of what their basketball team (one year I think they had 1 or 2 St. John's recruits on the team) did to ours. That said, from what I have read, they have upgraded significantly since then. Overall, I was just clarifying that Addazio and PP coached the High School team, not the Academy team.

The best recruiting tool UConn has over BC is 11/19/16 and 11/18/17. They best make the most of it.

You need to be more concerned about the fact your football team and men's basketball team haven't won a ACC league game in a LONG time...has it been a year yet? Outside of hockey the premier sports at BC have fallen on hard times with football having finally reached the lows that hoops has been consistently been at for years now. The talk about Pasqualoni and his quality as a recruiter won't really matter...because if BC doesn't win 8 games next year Addazio and his gang will be out of work. He couldn't even keep a legacy recruit in Scooter Harrington (both parents graduated from BC..dad was a BC Football 2x Captain).

Yes, we went 3-9, but 5 of our losses were by a total of 14pts. If not for a perfect storm of 5 new OL starters, season-ending injuries to the starting QB and RB, and no one on the roster that could make the 1 extra FG per game that would've won those 5 games and made a 3-9 team an 8-win team. 2015 was an aberration.

I'm glad for the optimism from the UConn fanbase. It makes the upcoming series all the more fun. But ask FSU and Clemson how fun it is to play BC. Only one team scored more than 26 points against us: Clemson. Nine teams scored 20pts or less against us. The most comparable team to UConn on our 2015 schedule, Howard, lost 76-0.

The same players who had 1 FBS win last year, who will now be coached by Pasqualoni? I like our chances even better.
UConn's 16 returning starters who beat #8 Houston (while UConn was playing with our backup QB and backup TE) can't wait.

Don Brown jumped off the sinking ship...keep hitching your wagon to that loser Addazio...enjoy irrelevancy...by the way how is your standalone football practice facility with a indoor field that you can play a regulation game? UConn's is doing awesome..will be open 10 years in June. Oh yeah that's right...your loser coach is still crying he doesn't have one and is using that as an excuse why he can't win.

Howard is comparable to UConn? Nothing against Howard; but, the Bison are a D1 FCS team that can only offer 63 scholarships per year versus 85 at DI FBS programs. While not a P5 member (yet), UConn football is still D1 FBS with very good facilities (better than BC's) and with a BCS bowl under our belts. UConn is not comparable to Howard by any stretch of the imagination.

As for BC's tight games, yes, your defense was very good last year; but, they had to be because your offense, excluding the Howard game, averaged 11 points a game. Anything more than a field goal lead was insurmountable for BC's offense and everyone knew it.

PP was hired as an additional DL Coach at BC, but its his recruiting contacts he has in the schools in NY, and in N.E. that Addazio believes can be of benefit to BC, and reportedly was he was brought on board. Say what we will about Hathaways absurd and incompetent decision to hire PP as Uconn's Head Football Coach ( after being let go as Head Football Coach at Syracuse ), but PP has developed some great relationships over his many years at many schools in NY and N.E. and it is believed this could help BC in their recruiting. Only time will tell, if this will prove true or not. But PP's impact with the current players will be limited to working with a couple of players on the DL as an additional assistant along the DL.

So he basically gave his mentor/friend a job so he could be back near his mom after he blew his interview with the NY Giants.
 
It's funny hearing BC hired PP for recruiting when there is a decent chance the current staff won't be at BC by the time signing day comes around.
 
BC will be a tough place for UCONN to play. There is no reason to believe that defense will not be formidable with all the personnel coming back. Don Brown will be missed, but presumably they will continue with relentless pressure and that has proven problematic for our struggling offense.

That said, Addazio did not balance his offensive personnel when he came in and as a result there was just pure incompetence last season. Losing a starting QB is tough, but it happens to almost all teams for part of a season. Not having a competent back-up kicker is a real head scratcher.

From where we sit today, UCONN has a good chance in this one. If BC limps in with a poor record and UCONN a decent one, the proportion of UCONN fans in attendance could be very high. I think this is the weekend before TG as well which would suggest a lot of students may have hit the road for home.

Addazio will make it through next season with his job just about no matter what. But, if it's another 3-4 win season and he loses to UCONN he goes into 2017 severely wounded and Bates first hire could be a monumental bust. Given the absolute cluster duckk that is BC hoops, BC's athletic department might be in for a major overhaul which will almost assure several more years of "rebuilding". I envy BC's conference affiliation, but not their position.

A few more things:

My suspicion is that PP's reputation in Conn. with HS coaches took a severe blow given what transpired at UCONN under his leadership. He got fired mid-season because the entire system and culture were screwed. I don't think that is lost on anyone. I do think he brings something to the table with his defensive experience.

This posting to BC's record against UCONN has to be taken in the context that it was entirely amassed while UCONN was a 1AA program with a few games while UCONN was in transition from 1AA to 1A and entry into the Big East. Regardless of the reason, BC refused to play UCONN once UCONN was fully embedded in 1A ball and a full round of 1A scholarships.

UCONN and BC should play each other regularly and hopefully this will be the start. It makes absolutely too much sense for both programs. For BC to play two 1AA programs in a single season is just ludicrous when a regional program the caliber of UCONN is available. Bates had the common sense to recognize that.

Also the same UConn team that lost in their bowl game to Marshall. They were tied for second in Conference USA.

To clarify BC will be coached by Steve Addazio next year! He will be assisted by Paul Pasqualoni.

All of you must have PP envy for his success in coaching 40 years. he has the most wins in Big East history went to every bowl game just about year up until his last when SU got blown out by Georgia Tech who had a wide receiver named CALVIN JOHNSON!! Because PP doesnt throw anyone under the bus do you think it was coincidence all the top playerrs in UCONN football had graduated the same year RE left!! DUH! RE was a smart man. But no PP doesnt say the cupboards are empty. he works with you tube Johnny senation for a few years. The loss to Buffalo had Khalil Mack one of the best defenders in the NFL!! And had high hopes for Casey Cochran who he was preparing.. BD has to announce over and over I have to make this big mess into a less of a mess to make him look like the hero. He gets PPs smart athletic strong high character recruits who had to mature and is taking the credit for winning most games where 4 of the teams he won the coaches were fired this year!! Or had losing records. Yeah yeah they hit Houston at the perfect time when they were flat and without their starting QB after their Memphis win. UConn was hot that night and called a great trick play.

As for PP he was one of the only coaches not fired with the Bears and had several NFL and college teams approach him w DC and other offers. he left the Texans on his own terms after having the 3rd best defense in the NFL and #1 3rd down D. Left their without a job to get his family back to their family friends and house in Connecticut. BTW he did not mess up the Giants interview apparently did very well but already had a guy in place. The BC job came up and he is happy as can be for his family
