Considering that no one is defending P or GDL, this thread has more legs than I would have figured.
Rule no. 2: when pointing out error always use spell check.

Well it's a lot easier to kick a man when they are down.Considering that no one is defending P or GDL, this thread has more legs than I would have figured.
I think we - all of us - need to get a grasp. Warde Manuel, if he's decided to fire a coach, or hire a coach, is going to need to approach the people higher up in the chain of command than he - when it comes to the salary/buyout stuff.
What I can say, is that if you've decided to fire somebody, for performance failure reasons, the very last thing you want to do, is wait.
Regardless, nobody around here is going to know anything about any of that, until and unless, it actually happens.

Sending you Pasqualoni and DeLeone was part of a nefarious Syracuse plot to sink UConn from BCS bowl caliber down to the depths we used to inhabit.
I have a firm grasp. They are not going to fire him per se.. They will terminate contract and pay remaining terms. Despite what most people would like to believe - this is not going to be a just cause termination (unless something incredibly stupid outside of direct coaching happens). This will not become messy - it's not good for the University.
I may be the lone voice in the crowd(and no I am not related or have any affiliation or acquaintance with Coach PP or GD) but I feel you guys are one year too early with the pitchforks and the hangman's noose. Like Des Conner stated Coach P did walk into a train wreck as far as the offense went. Toddman leaves a year early, Frey transfers out, no experience at RB(Shoemate was damaged goods the whole time he was here) and no experienced QBs. Now I agree with most of you that introducing a completely foreign offensive mentality was premature. They should have waited till they had a recruiting class or two of their own players before springing this pro-style zone blocking concept on guys that weren't ready for it. But..... in their defense they have stepped up the recruiting. They have grabbed some of the better CT kids that would have been long gone had RE still been here. Max D is one that we see playing. More will be coming. I believe they will step up the recruiting and they have a ton of pro and college experience to develop these kids for the next level. Just like Calhoun, they need a couple years to get this thing moving in the right direction.
I know everyone wants to see the next version of Oregon here at Storrs and they want to see it now. That's the problem. Your not going to see it now and it won't matter if you bring Lombardi or Landry back from the grave...even they would need a couple years to get things straightened out. These guys are building a D-1 program, not rebuilding. And you don't do it in 18 months. So like it or not your just gonna have to be patient and hopefully supportive. Look forward gents, stop looking back. He brought in a quarterback to stop the bleeding in that department. Give the kid a decent O-line and we'd all be comparing him to Dan O right now. Receivers are better. The D has taken a couple of serious hits(injuries) but keeps on plugging. Really..if you think about it, once they get the O-line in gear they are gonna have a pretty damn good offense. Whitmer, McCombs, Delorenzo, Phillips, Joe Williams, Bockeloh, Cruz, Jeremy Davis, Rugg, Samra, Cochrane, Puyol... they're all gonna be here for a while. I see the future being bright. Just got to give it the same time everyone gave Calhoun to bring a winner to Storrs.

Is there anyone who thinks there is 'just cause' to fire him and not pay him?

He is not going to be terminated for cause if he is terminated. Period.
No kidding - but the idea that anyone has proposed that has been posted like 3 times in the last few days.
He is never even going to be terminated. He'll negotiate a buyout and 'resign' because he is a decent person and the athletic department will show him that respect.

This is a big part of the problem. We have bought in Lombardi's offense from the grave.I know everyone wants to see the next version of Oregon here at Storrs and they want to see it now. It's funny that in a thread where there's 99% consensus we're still trying to find things to fight about.
Trust me, after the depths of GRob and that entire debacle, where we are today in terms of optimism, outlook, and enthusiasm is world's apart.I'm sorry.........USED TO inhabit?
Lombardi during his time was an innovator. Landry in his time was an innovator. That was my point. No matter who you bring in it's going to take time. This is a big part of the problem. We have bought in Lombardi's offense from the grave.
Neal Brown might not make us Oregon East, but I'd love to see him get a chance to make us Texas Tech North.

What are the realistic chances of that happening? Hey lets face it, Coach P is from here and wants to be here. This isn't a stepping stone job for him. How long is a Neal Brown gonna hang around Connecticut really? You look around this state and the school systems and parents would rather see kids kicking a soccer ball around so what football that is being played here does not have the support that most other states give. It's a shame but it's the reality of a state mostly run by women.I suspect if a Neal Brown-style offense was installed next season by someone who could motivate like Lombardi it would have a quicker impact than some folks think.
