Pania Davis, pronounced "Pawn - nee- uh", is an Australian native
from Perth. She has been on the NEW MEXICO JUNIOR COLLEGE
"Thunderbirds" for two years averaging 13.6 ppg, FG % 52.7, Three
point % 33.3, with 9.9 rebounds per game. Her scoring so far at
FSU is 14 and 17 points in exhibitions, and 14 points in their
opening game. UCONN, having mastered Lauren Betts, should not
have a problem with this tall lady Seminole. But it could be an
interesting matchup to watch. Will Serah Williams handle the
"height"? or will Jana and ICE be called in to repeat their
NCAA Semifinal "magic". Granted Laurne Betts did have 24 points.
Interesting, I could not find and FIBA stats for "Pawn - nee - uh".
I'll check to see how she does against Georgia Southern tonight.

NMJC is little more than a community college and the league it plays in is hardly comparable to D1 competition. But from what little I've seen, Davis moves well and is very long.

Doesn't look like Ga Southern has anyone within 6" in height of Davis. FSU hasn't been able to get her the ball yet, halfway through the 1st quarter.
Both teams in the bonus halfway through the 1st quarter. 😲

Serah played against Betts and she played well. Think I saw a video on YT of the matchup last season.

This year UCONN is NOT challenged by height differentials. We will contain. When the team is fully clicking on all gears, WHICH SHOULD BE IN 3 OR 4 MORE GAMES, UCONN will BE the BEAST from the EAST and NO.13, here we come!!! Then the question becomes, " can we go undefeated." The answer is " POSITIVELY!This year UCONN has a NEW destiny and that is to Repeat a "NEW" four NCAA Titals in a row. Play SAFE. GO HUSKIES!!!!! GO TEAM!!!!!! Many Pundits are saying " it's possible!"

There once was a girl from Perth, whose length exceeded her girth......

FSU 80 Georgia Southern 72 (The game was closer than the final score!)
Pania Davis stats: 8 points in 11 minutes, with four fouls in 11 minutes!
"Pawn-nee-uh" shot four for 10 (missing two three pointers) 0/0 free throws
0 assists, 1 block. She might do well on a 40 minute per game stat, but??
This could be good practice for UCONN against "tall" "Bigs" (aka, Lauren
Betts). ROLL HUSKIES, ROLL!

How's she handling the gravity?
Excuse me? Are you making fun of we Southern Hemispherians, for whom the only thing preventing us from falling of the earth is the wonderful invention of Velcro!

Joking aside, Pania was born in New Zealand, although raised in Western Australia, and has played for our national side the Tall Ferns (interestingly, on their 2022 Australian tour).

In New Zealand Pania would be pronounced more like Pah-knee-ah. Look up the legend of Pania of the Reef.

USAian puritanical warning: the picture at the start of this item shows her statue, in which she is topless.

I watched some of the FSU game last night. The Seminoles have lost a lot from last year’s team. They will be in trouble against an aggressive Husky defense. If UConn hits their 3’s the game will get out of hand for FSU pretty quickly.

Only 2 rebounds?

Pania played with UCLA's Charlisse Leger-Walker (a transfer from the
Washington State Cougars) on the TALL FERNS (NZ girls junior national team)
in the fall of 2022. In Australia Pania Davis played with the Rockingham
Flames, in the NBL 1 West Division. There are highlight videos of PANIA #25
on YOUTUBE: Aussie Prospects, 12/6/20 .

2022 highlights. " Davis also played with the Rockingham Flames of
the NBL1 West Division. To my eye Pania has not developed much
in the past 3 years.... but this is from a limited viewing of her old highlights and
on her performance on
Thursday night with FSU vs GEORGIA SOUTHERN. Can't wait for Sunday!
Go Kiwis! Go Tall FERNS! IMHO... The Huskies win with Geno
using MANY floor combinations.
