Paige Playing Pickup

Paige pulls a Bo Jackson--scores the winning hoop and keeps going straight down the tunnel to the locker room. :D

Other than Flau'jae, who else do we recognize? Some of those girls look pretty good, especially on offense. Flau'jae was a pretty good player as a frosh and continues to improve. She also has a big personality.

Defenses are going to have their hands full with Paige. She'll pull up from 25' and splash a three with ease. Will UConn break the team record for threes attempted and made? When both Kaleena and Moriah shot 48% from deep, that was a really good team!

Check out Paige's arms and legs. No more Olive Oyl!

I love watching Bueckers taking the ball over the halfcourt line with her eyes scanning everything in front of her. I expect something great.
The run into the corridor after that ballet-like layup reminded me of Flipper Anderson against the Giants.

You mean a Pearl Washington?

I was at the game at the Carrier Dome when Pearl hit the 3/4 court shot at the buzzer to beat Georgetown and ran straight into the locker room while 30,000+ fans were going crazy. My wife, who was 7 months pregnant at the time was with me. She looked pale after the shot. Evidently, my future son heard all the noise and kicked up a storm. :)

Back in the dark ages, I used to love playing 5 on 5 pickup basketball. Lots of scoring and pretty much no defense whatsoever. :)
Yup. Half court is the limiting condition for playing coherent defense in a pickup game.

We played 4 on 4 in the playground in Newark in the summers. Game was 12, switch baskets at 6, single point for a basket. There were lights. First game started at about 6:30 pm. If you lost the first game, you might as well go home, there were that many guys looking to play. Some great high school and college players there. By the way, everyone played 3 on 3 half court when there wasn't a full court game. Where do you think the triangle offense came from?

Yes I remember the pressure of winning those 4 on 4 half court games, particularly on Sunday morning when it might be an hour and a half before you got back on the court if you lost. :(

I think it's sweet how well she and Flau'jae get along. I guess no one doesn't like Paige.
Seems many players are friends with players on other teams…through AAU ball, camps, Allstar teams, players know each other pretty well…and don’t feud with each other like fans do.

Did anyone else ever play pickup games at the old YMCA in Hartford on Jewell Street?

Often decent talent, but it would be 30 seconds of play followed by three minutes of arguing a call, over and over.

How much would you give to be able to go back in time and play just one more Sunday morning or for me a weekday summer evening? Sheer joy although we did not recognize it at the time. If you made that one great, new move and scored you didn't need anything else to carry you through in life or so it seemed.

Right now, I would be really happy to go back in time just to walk around the block without limping……;)

Hmmm, that could be a good thread. If you could go back in time and tell your 18-year-old self one thing, what would it be?

Yeah....Right across from Bushnell Park, some of those games were rough. I also played ping-pong there and arguments broke out.........over ping-pong!!....smh

One thing I remember learning from the few times we tried playing 4v4 full court is what a PG is. 4v4 with no one in the middle, the game just devolves into two parallel lines running down the court. Once you have that 5th player, the PG, the game gets a lot more complicated.

Dang! Over ping-pong? Holy smokes! I guess when you are competitor, you will compete for anything.

You are a step ahead, I would happy if I was even able to walk around the block. Like you limping is mandatory.
