Paige named to 2022 Nancy Lieberman Award Watch List

Thinking about this a bit more, the only recent example I can think of with a team actually having 2 PGs who both thrived was Oregon w/ Ionescu and Cazorla. Otherwise I think you get PG by committee where no one is really exceptional in the role, or a player w/ PG type skills for the most part accepting a different role w/ their team.

Here's another questionable call for me. For UCLA Osborne has a scorer's mentality, but she is their PG until proven otherwise.
I think one could argue (I would) that Ionescu/Moore (2019-20) also thrived at Oregon.

Interesting. If Geno decides that he wants Nika to play the point with Paige and whoever else to function as shooting guards/wings, Paige might not qualify for the award in the strictest sense.

Ah well. All will be revealed soon enough.

Positionless basketball, right? If my memory is correct, and I have been mistaken in the past, but I believe Diana won the award, in 03 or 04, maybe both. In those years Maria Conlon was the official point Guard, at least I always thought so.

I wouldn't worry about that. DT still managed to win it and Maria Conlon was technically the PG. Paige will have plenty of assists for this award.

Hmm...Oregon was really good that year, but I thought Moore struggled a bit to find her place. I would definitely take the Ionescu/Cazorla duo over the previous several years to the Ionescu/Moore duo.

Eh, that's what happens when you don't beat anyone in the top 75. Gotta beat someone to be someone.

Looks like they'll have their chance this year. They play Oregon State in November and TCU a few weeks later (although TCU might suck this year). Plus, I believe they'll be NCAA Tournament-eligible this year.
It was a covid year last season. CBU only played WAC teams and local teams in So Cal. Your argument is weak, and might be valid if it was a team award, not an individual players award.

No, CBU is in its last year of D1 tournament probation. WNIT only

CBU played Rice #46 and New Mexico #59, both in the WNIT. Rice won the WNIT. Against NM Olaeta had 11 pts, 7 rebounds and 14 assists.

One more note, the year prior. 19/20 season CBU played Stanford and Olaeta scored 18 points with 7 assists and 7 rebounds in a 5 point loss to Stanford. It was on a neutral court.

No surprise that Paige made the list, though there are at least 10 good or really good players on the list.

Well, that's great, isn't it? Makes it competitive. Makes all of them work harder. Makes it fun. But above all, elevates the game, (WBB), to a place where it really can't be ignored anymore, or makes it much harder for the knuckle draggers to pass off. All the best to all of them, and if they can show they're better than last year's winner, then the level has jumped to the next stage.

It's a minor point, but New Mexico was only #93 in Massey.

I was being playful, but these watch lists are always funky in one way or another. The Lieberman award folks usually go out of their way to include several little-known guards from mid- to low majors on their watch list. I notice that didn't happen as much this year; only Katia Gallegos of UTEP and Dyaisha Fair of Buffalo hail from outside the Big 6 conferences. (Maybe the preseason watch list is shorter this year?)
