Paige is the most valuable NCAA athlete on social media

This assumes that Geno and CD lets her stay active on social media during the season....

So Paige could potentially earn $670,000 annually from being an influencer on social media? Like the Kardashian's, except likable...

But my point is she can legally start earning that now? Geno and CD are gonna have to rethink that "restricted social media during the season" thing...

I'll preface this by saying that I'm an old guy. But what exactly is an "influencer"? And what can Paige or any college athlete do or say on social media that will earn money? Endorsements? Use of her likeness? She hasn't played one minute of college basketball and, as much as those of us who populate boards like these love WBB, it's not a sport with a wide fan base. My guess is that many casual sports fans know who Trevor Lawrence is but couldn't name a WBB player on a bet. Don't take any of this negatively - I'm looking for enlightenment.

He kind of briefly discussed that on the Instagram live with Renee Montgomery. He said he would be fine with her making money from Instagram posts and endorsements.

There aren’t many wbb fans, but there are a few specific players that many folks know about. Paige for instance is one of them. She is uber talented and can do a lot of things with the ball in her hands. She kind of plays better than most girls or “like a boy.” That is attractive or eye catching for folks who aren’t normal fans. She has been promoted by this platform called “ballislife” or ball is life; it’s a platform that showcases highlights for mainly high schools boys or recruits. Rarely do they show girls. Paige has been on that platform numerous times. From that platform they’ve been made aware of who she is and they can follow her handle from there. I’m not saying that all of her followers come from there, but a lot of them did. It opens you up to a lot of exposure from non avid wbb fans. There are also other platforms like courtside films, overtime nxt, and SLAM that have posted her highlight mixtapes creating traffic for even more followers. That is just my guess on it.

Ky Card, good preface, I'm rowing in that same boat. I watch my sons and daughter sitting there with their phone in hand pushing buttons on social media and one day I realized "These are MY children". If they are so engaged what must the "younger generation" be doing. Paige is a teenager. Her name is out there and young men and women her age are following her for things other than basketball. Remember when you were in high school? Who set the styles? The popular kids. And they were usually the kids who participated in athletics. The girls are looking to see what Paige is wearing, what she is doing for recreation, who she is hanging out with, what she is listening to for music. The boys are looking at her because she's a girl. And with so many young people being sequestered it will up the numbers dramatically.

No, the NCAA has until June 30, 2021 to amend it's rules regarding name and likeness income. She will have to wait until the 2021-22 season.

Players are only banned from twitter during the season. All other social media platforms are fine. If you follow any of the players you'll see some post regularly during the season, and others rarely.

Sounds like she could be good..Pepe's should name a pizza after her..Paige Peperoni anyone?

I was shocked, shocked, to find someone else on the BY actually even heard of Vera Lynn. I did, too, so you can tell that I am old and old-time. When Kia Nurse was here, I enjoyed hearing her comments, but there aren't many UConn players former or current whose words really interest me. Not that the young women aren't smart, they just haven't lived very much. Of course if what they have to say interests other youth, so be it. If that means money in the bank, so be it.
But, old and out of touch, I really just want to watch them play.

1) But my point is she can legally start earning that now?

2) Geno and CD are gonna have to rethink that "restricted social media during the season" thing...
1) No ("legally" yes, but not "NCAA legally")

2) Almost all of Paige's earning power is from Instagram which, to my knowledge, the players are not restricted from using during the season (if I were Paige I would have cleared that before I committed)

How long do you think it will take Paige to become the face of the program, if she hasn't already?

She could literally make millions right now being an influencer for Nike, Puma, LuLuLemon & other fashion/athletic lifestyle brands that target GenZ females. Not sure what the endorsement rules are for college athletes though. I know they're constantly changing.

Huskyd, how about Rudy Valle or Blossom Dearie? I always considered myself of the Elvis, Joni James and Les Paul generation but as I grew up my parents always had Tommy Dorsey or Glenn Miller on the record player (78rpm). Then the kids came along an here comes the Eagles and Bruce Springsteen. I have always thought that good music was good music, period. My problem with some of the music today is the pornographic lyrics, And, please, do not anyone out there tell me it is "art".

That's why I say she'll be here three years then she gone. There will be zero reason to stay.

Loyalty? Finishing what you start? Winning another NC? Better air travel?

I know none of those things pad your bank account, but everyone is motivated by different things. Ask Sabrina...

Or Megan...

One person I know for sure who isn’t going to like all the media attention Paige is going to get this season and the next three season is a person name Jealous Dawn in South Carolina.

Think about it, if you could trade Paige for Boston, would you do it. I do not see Dawn being envious of any other team’s players.

Why would Dawn be jealous? Her team won a national title more recently than the Huskies, she's the U.S. national team's head coach, and has no trouble recruiting top talent to South Carolina.

Jealous is definitely the wrong word and the popularity idea that started this thread is silly since Dawn like all major WCBB coaches just want the women's game to grow. But I could see a twinge of envy in a PG coach that the truest of true PG's is up in Storrs (I know Saniya Rivers in SC in 2021 but still) . But maybe Geno has that twinge that a true dominant post (i.e Boston) wound up in Dixie ;).

Ask that again in 2/3 years. Boston and Bueckers were on the same USA team a year ago and despite the outstanding play of Boston it was Bueckers who won MVP.

I think you misunderstood what I was trying to say, Paige has not yet shown she will be outstanding against collegiate level talent, Boston has. I believe most coaches who be more comfortable with the more experienced player. Paige may very well become an outstanding collegiate player and make the choice between the two players difficult but as of today I think Boston is the obvious choice. As for Dawn being jealous, I think there are many who would love to have the team she has today.
