Paige Daily Video Allotment

Hopkins vs Eden Prairie - 2/23/17

Paige put on a show during this game during her freshman season. She missed a bunch of free throws and sat out the last 8+ minutes of the game yet still put up 25 points. But you have to watch to see the pure dominance on display. Besides a few ridiculous assists she hit a driving, Jordanesque scoop shot where she changed hands and flipped the ball about two feet above the hoop around 38:30 in.

I am reminded of piano tryouts for my grammar school band. Several students played pretty well for 12-14 year olds. Then this girl sat down and played like Liberace. She was so much more advanced than the rest that the tryouts were over. I've seen lots of guards put on displays of moves that boggle the mind and then, because they were so fully extended they couldn't even hit the rim with their shot. It looks like they spent all their practice time perfecting the move and none in making the shot. Bueckers is always in control. Her moves on drives are dazzling and then her shot is soft with a perfect arc, not the wild shots put up so often, even at the WNBA level. She makes the shots

UConn fans are very lucky to be able to watch her in the coming years.

Paige getting emotional at end when she tweeked her ankle?

Yup. Some frustration with the drill and then the pain; but she soldiered on. Note that both of them were clanking a lot of iron.

Good. Getting her prepped for Geno's impossible (7 on 5) drills.

There is a difference between making shots when you are rested as opposed to when you are exhausted from a workout. I doubt they are going to face defenders as good as that trainer.

Notice how up in their grill he was? And they have to start in that position, so yeah it is tough and you are probably right that it is the end of a tiring season. But there is something artificial about it the way they start and passing to a team mate is not an option. So much of the personal trainer stuff is of marginal utility other than some conditioning. Geno is not keen on the utility of trainers.

Hopkins vs Chaska - Dec 27, 2019

An early senior season game for Paige Bueckers who showed off her post-up game multiple times. Also watch for the change-of-direction move resulting in a scoop layup in the second half.

Paige ended up with 28 points on 11-19 from the field and 6-7 from the line.

Hopkins demolishes Robbinsdale Armstrong - Jan 12, 2018

Sophomore Paige only plays about 10-12 minutes in this one; ends up with 18 points on 8-8 shooting, 8 assists, 4 rebounds, 3 steals

At one point in the second half she hits a floater near the foul line and the PBP guy says, God she's good!

After listening to the PBP guy I had to check on the NE-Tenn game. The PBP guy had NE and they got beat 34-10. Ouch.

On YouTube this PM looking at other stuff I spotted the Hopkins v Wayzata Sectional Final game and what caught my eye was that it had been viewed 168,000 times. Pretty wild that.

Hopkins vs Eden Prairie - Feb 11, 2020

Numerous threes and several highlight-reel passes in this 23 point, 8 rebound, 10 assist, 9 steal, 3 block performance from Paige.

Paige reminds me of Gretzky the more I see her. She exits for good at the 35:30 mark.

Lake Conference home opener: Edina at Hopkins Girls Basketball on January 7, 2020

It was the 13th game of 2020 season, but the first Lake Conference game of the year. Hopkins would win 82-27....Paige Bueckers, in just 18 minutes of court time, scored 22 with 8 assists and 8 steals.

Gretzky was always noted for his incredible vision; knowing where his teammates were and would be, what was open, what would be open, and, of course, how to get them the puck and create his own chances. Paige plays similarly. She has an incredible sixth sense that is not teachable.

"the best I've ever seen with the ball in her hands"

Geno's words. I assume he meant coming out of high school.

But how about without the ball Geno?

I'm sure he will focus on her movement without the ball and her defense. Bueckers is very fortunate to have played for Cosgriff for 5 years. Not only did they have a great coaching staff but she played with a lot of talented team mates I must have seen over 20 games, some of them several times and Hopkins played a sort of motion offense, using lots of screens and took plenty of 3's when defenses collapsed into the paint They also played mostly man to man and both trapped and pressed. For that and other reasons I am confident that Bueckers will become an integral part of the offense and defense very quickly.

Agreed. Cosgriff seemed to play a basic motion, read and react offense without the triangle and skinny post things that Geno does. Which means Paige is accustomed to spacing the floor, cutting to the basket, finding cutters, setting screens etc. What Cosgriff didn't seem to teach was the multiple options off of every offensive position on the floor. Also I never saw him run single, double or ladder screens, both fake or to set up a shot from the elbow. No high post screens nor is there much Hi/Lo game. No catch and shoot off the curl...and not enough pick and roll to my liking. A lot of rub screens though. His teams did however play tenacious defense both full and half court with not much switching. Lots of trapping in both full and half court. His teams were good passing teams and depended on pocket passing more than any of his competition. It was sad to see him leaving both the coaching and teaching arena. Good coaches like him are hard to find. His teams were fun to watch. Hopefully he'll show up somewhere else.

They may not do a ton of P&R, but if you've watched the videos here you'll see Bueckers is about as good executing that play as anyone could possibly be.

Hopkins vs Robbinsdale Cooper - Feb 29, 2020

This game wasn't shown live.

Paige had 24 points and 11 assists in this one and, unless I missed something, was 11-11 from the field.

...and if you watch her in the FIBA games (each of which I must have seen 10x or more) you'll also see her doing the P&R as well as anyone. She's also the best pocket passer I've ever seen.

Fair and balanced that we are, it is only right that someone throw a stinker up here - even if it is my least favorite roundball "game". Yes, I mean the street fair 3 X 3! Paige, Hailey, "Sam" and Boston (I think) look like a team put together off the street. Summer of 2018.

Condensed game: Hopkins vs Wayzata for a trip to the state tourney - March 7, 2019

Paige scores 25 and makes plays all over the court.
