Latson belongs on this list.
The Coaches Committee that selects the AA team is meeting in Tampa, and only finalized their selections after the Elite 8 games. They certainly considered the performances of Paige, Sarah and others in the final decision for both AA as well as the Wade Trophy.

One of the stated criteria for the WBCA All-American team is “Sportsmanship & Attitude” Latson is undoubtedly a great player. But I suspect that her decision to enter the transfer portal right after the end of the season may have worked against her.

Interesting! Do you think jumping into the portal also kept Olivia Miles off the WBCA AA team? (I believe she was 2nd team AP AA.)

Maybe. When you think about it, you have an honor selected by a bunch of coaches who, let’s be honest, hate the portal and NIL. Latson & Miles may have shot themselves in the foot by declaring for the portal so early. I have to believe they could have waited a week or so, without impacting their transfer opportunities whatsoever.

ND already has the Hidalgo selection, and it would not make sense to select two players from a school that got eliminated in the Sweet Sixteen.
Yes, team success is another criteria that is considered by the WBCA. But that doesn’t explain Latson.

OD, you make a good point. I'm sure the vast majority of those coaches lost someone to the portal, and they were not happy about it. That has to influence their voting.

I read somewhere, maybe here on the BY, that 25% are entering the portal. Can someone confirm this? If true, this is outrageous. Maybe it's time for HS seniors to sign a contract instead of a letter of intent. "Student Athlete" is becoming an oxymoron for the top 100 or so players.

According to the NCAA, there were 3,704 DI women’s college basketball players in 2022-23. I imagine the number is roughly equivalent in 2024-25. According to Talia Goodman at On3.com, there are currently 1,162 athletes in the portal, so it’s actually closer to a third.

Hailey Van Lith sure made the right decision to come back for a fifth year.
Congrats to all 10.
I was very pleased to see Georgia Amoore, Hailey Van Lith, and Aneesah Morrow in
the WBCA top 10. I thought it was a very representative group of
fine women athletes. Wade Trophy = Paige was a Natural for that one!

I had predicted Betts would win the Wooden Award, of course I’m not mad that Paige completed her POTY trophy case.
Considering that the Wooden Award is chosen by the Los Angeles Athletic Club, you may be right. On the other hand, the Wooden Award is, I believe, the last POY award given out. Therefore, it includes the entire season’s performances. So tonight’s head to head matchup between Bett’s team and Paige’s team might tip the vote in one direction or the other.

I had 8 of ten with Blakes and Latson in over Amoore and Iriafen. Team success, for better or worse, can play a role.

Congrats to them all and to PB for the Wade Trophy.

Interesting fact I shared earlier, Holdsclaw never won the Wade. In 1998 it was Ticha Penichero and 1999 was Stephanie White. Both were great players but it's strange to think one of the GOATs never won the award.
