Pace and Tempo

Playing up tempo means defensive stops, bigs who can rebound and good outlet passes to guards.

Out of those three things, UConn was only above average at defensive stops.

You nailed it on what gives you the opportunity to run. But, we also did not know how to run an effective break the few times we attempted to run.

We don't run like we used to... I'm not advocating running "the system" (although I'd love to see any team do that), but we have to rebound better and get our bigs to get rid of the damn ball to ignite some transition. Part of the problem is that our bigs the last 4 years have concentrated so much on just securing a board, that we end up walking the ball up. I'm watching SCar and Florida right now and both teams are pushing the ball off makes and misses. We have just stopped doing that. I know, we won two titles playing slug ball but it is pretty painful to watch. For the life of me, I have no idea why really any recruit would watch us and say that they enjoy our style.

Any idea where to find the numbers for college bball overall? I know the new hand check rules were because of lower scoring, so it could be a trend overall.

But I agree if we can get a big who can rebound and outlet pass 4-5 times a game we would be in a great place. Seriously I don't even care if the guy can't shoot for anything: hedge screens, set screens, help d, rebound and throw an outlet. Fundamental big stuff that isn't valued by many kids right now at the high school level is so vital. (I coach high school. It's been an uphill battle for years!!)

No big recruit likes the style that's why we aren't getting high level ones. Guards should be seeing an opportunity to showcase their skills though.

15 point drop in 10 years, wow. I would love to see the stats for, like 1993 to 1996, Uconn was a scoring machine back then.

It's a different game now overall though. As someone else said, you need to compare to overall college stats to evaluate.

Of course it is and course you do. But still, that is quite a difference just the same.
