Two. But…scoring points is not what ailed TN. Their problem was shot selection. You shot sub 32% from 3, but took the third most attempts in D1. And then..lost at least 7 or 8 games by a handful of points. Gotta fix that. Sometimes when you lead in a category (TN was 3rd in offensive rebounds in D1) it actually masks a problem…..in this case…poor shooting. TN also didn’t shoot a lot of FTs…and I’m assuming it’s because they took a lot of jump shots for 3 instead of penetrating and attacking the basket.

It was year one in this style. I think the team this year. Will be better fit for this style. The guard play with adding the twins and Robertson. Will allow more of the pace and pressure.
 
So is the twins and Robertson a upgrade? Over Spear and Spencer at guard position.
 
Per this tweet, Spear came to Tennessee to improve her chances in the WNBA, so I'll be curious to see whether her failure to get drafted has any impact on receptivity to the Caldwell Method among pro-ambitious players. Spears's stats, other than field goal attempts ("pace") and steals ("pressure"), are down year to year across the board, and I can't think this hockey line substitution approach affords potential draft picks the best chance to shine for W scouts. I ask because I am a little surprised no team took a chance on her, since this wasn't exactly one of the strongest, deepest drafts on record.

Two. Maybe the 97 points a game will get you guys past Murray State next year

I don't that would a negative for Caldwell. Look at Spearman foe example. She took five 3's at Miami. She took 80 this year. Her overall game is better. No player that got a lot of minutes has left.

While third in scoring offense, the Vols were 293rd in scoring defense. The way I understand this, the whole point of a high-pressure defense is to limit the opponent scoring opportunities while increasing your own. In theory, causing turnovers for the other team means that you will have more scoring opportunities, and they will have fewer. I can understand giving up a few more points simply because the total number of possessions in the game will be more, but I would’ve expected a better performance defensively.

I’ve been skeptical all along that the approach the Vols are taking could work without substantial adjustment. It will certainly produce some shocking upset wins on nights when they’re shooting well. It’s also going to produce some unexpected losses on the nights when they’re shooting poorly. In the end, though, I think it’s going to come down to recruiting. I’m still skeptical that big time talent will commit to a program that won’t develop them for the next level.

Those numbers were just year one. A highly ranked freshman class is coming in. It will look different. The roster has changed. Darby did have some good games at Tennessee. She was not going pro. Prawl is a upgrade. The returning players should be better. Having already played a year in the style. I think Caldwell is a really good coach. Look at her overall record. To come and get Tennessee back to sweet 16. A good job. Oh yeah remember she had a baby during the season.
