Pac 12 tourney

At the risk of jinxing Wazzu, the Coogs leading Utah 53-41 with at end of the 3rd quarter in which they outscored the Utes, 27-11.
 
Down go the Utes, 66-58, in the quarterfinals. Does that cost them a #1 seed?
 
Looks like Utah had a furious late rally that came up just short. They deep sixed any chance they had at a #1 seed in the Tourney. I figured the Pac 12 tourney would have some surprises.
 
Looks like Pili had a miserable game (3-14 shooting). In fact Kneepkens was the only starter who did much of anything.
 
I've been watching basketball all day, and the highlight of it all was watching Washington State's team come up to the interview table singing "Man, I Feel Like A Woman" as the song played over the PA system. :D

The conference tournaments have been something else so far. Lots of bracket busters

That sounds like it was really cute. I'd better go undelete the recording on my DVR and watch it. (I deleted it right after the final buzzer.)

Man...Colorado and Oregon St. are about even in personal fouls committed, but FT attempts is 22-4 in favor of the Buffs. Seriously?
 
Colorado wins 62-54. Day 2 is in the books. For all the close games and a few surprises, semi-finals have the 1, 3 and 5 seed, plus the 7. You can hardly call UCLA over Arizona an upset.
 
Arizona not fair to judge them when Lauren Ware went out. I do have a critique of Barnes, and a lot of fans have said this why she doesn't play her bench. Wasn't Maya Nnaji a top 10 recruit? Why does she play so little? When she plays it seems like the offense wakes up.

Martinez was way more productive than Ware. I don't think it was that big of a loss.

The bigger issue is why didn't they get more scoring out of players who were proven scorers elsewhere.

Depends on what happens in other tournaments, but it squarely puts them below Stanford assuming the Card win Pac 12.

Looking at the other contenders:
LSU-if they beat South Carolina, they get #1 (odds of happening are low IMO, and they still need to beat Georgia/Tennessee to get there)

Maryland/Iowa-if one of them wins out, I think they lock in their spot as the 4th #1. Odds of this happening are decent, but beating Indiana is not going to be an easy task. If Iowa gets to the title game and loses, I think they still could get the last #1, or they'll be the top #2. Maryland is more of a stretch to compete for a 1 with another loss based on NET rating. Whoever loses in the semis is out of contention.

Virginia Tech-I don't see them jumping Utah with their resume.

UCONN-if Fudd returns and the committee throws them a hail mary it could happen. Unlikely though. Plus they still need to win the Big East.
 
Well, Stanford was really bad in the 2nd half. Pac 12 had 2 potential #1 seeds, and both of them probably gave away the chance. Great job everybody.
 
Wow, Rice has these refs in her pocket. Carried the ball, instead they call a foul.

Onto the NCAA, where they're seeded I have no idea what to anticipate but I hope this motivates this group to another FF run. Wish Tara gave more minutes to Betts, especially in the second half.

Stanford got away with 3 fouls on the second to last defensive poession and Brink got away with a hook when she got fouled for her last points. Stanford fans have little to complain about from the officials.
 
PAC 12 has had the best games and so far the only semis that didn’t go chalk.

I actually think Rice was fouled before the carry (at least to me). That being that the earlier play Rice absolutely touched the ball last. I was sure that ball was going back to Stanford.
 
i really don’t think Rice touched the ball in the last play. It went off both their hands at the same time but continued in Rices direction because she hand more force behind it. I thought it was the right call.

I agree with you about that last foul. As for earlier though, I thought the UCLA player who took the shot BEFORE the jump ball was called was fouled on the arms by one and maybe two Stanford players and nothing was called. Then that crazy jump ball call when Stanford was trying to call a TO. But no matter if you agree with the calls or not, Stanford had a commanding lead there's no reason they should have lost it. UCLA made a lot of FT's down the stretch and that's something I haven't seen a lot of teams doing to close out games. They earned it IMO.

For sure. Bessior was definitely fouled on the shot attempt.

I'm not sure she doesn't play her bench, they frosh averaged between 10 and 13 minutes. The issue for Arizona - who exactly was supposed to get less minutes? The frosh all appeared in most games they were available for, except Hylton. They all had minor injuries.

The loss of Ware was big, but we adjusted. Other players stepped up, but we were smallish inside. Fields was played as a defensive specialist. I thought that was a mistake, but what do I know. She didn't shoot the ball, and eventually my limited friends in the fanbase came to my way of thinking.

Assuming they don't hit the portal, I was really impressed by Nnaji, Clark and Gilbert. Very impressive in the minutes they got.

feels like Pueyo is hit or miss many games.

Was Aronette Vonleh one of the players Barnes "encouraged" to transfer at the end of last season or did she decide to do so herself? She certainly seems to be playing well at Colorado.
