I thought we should also have a thread to discuss the NCAAT games in a general or synthesized way.

I know the women's tournament is chalk-heavy by tradition, but has there ever been an entire day of first-round play where the higher-seeded teams have gone 16-0? I'm hoping that our team of crack researchers can get on that.

1. Tennessee bt. 16 Austin Peay 75-42
8. Dayton bt. 9. TCU 67-66 (Dayton won on a buzzer beating layup. Quite the day.)
5. Georgetown bt. 12. Marist 62-42
4. Baylor bt. 13. Fresno State 69-55

7. Lousiana State bt. 10. Hartford 60-39
2. Duke bt. 15 Hampton 72-37

Great work! Thanks for this.

Not unprecedented, but long enough ago to be considered a rare event. Approximately 20 first-round days of play have transpired since then.

And look at some of those seeds! It feels like it's been eons since Tennessee was a 1 seed or Duke was a 2 seed.

So...the way things are starting out today, and with something obviously in the air in the great state of Texas...are the Longhorns on upset watch today?

Ha oh yeah that’s true! How quickly we forget. I actually predicted Duke would be the last 2 seed ahead of Maryland, who everyone assumed would be a 2, and for a rare moment in time I was right. Then both would lose to an upstart 10 seed Oregon team.

Mercado region has lost the 5-seed and 6-seed in the last three hours.

I suspect that we may see another 5 or 6 seed bite the dust tonight.

I tell ya, of the 3 games in this prime time slot I sure as heck didn't expect Louisville to be the team that's struggling

The matchups get a lot juicier starting today. I don't think I'd classify any of them as gimmes for the favorites, although of course that doesn't mean they'll all be close games.

Very intrigued by Kentucky–Iowa, Tennessee–Michigan and South Carolina–Oregon State.

I saw a stat somewhere that the Pac-12 was 39-5 since the 2012-2013 Big Dance in the First Round. If true, that's an unbelievable statistic for the conference that keeps proving that it's one of the best in the nation if not the best.

And with only a single loss by the women this year Pac on both men's and women's side is shining in the early going in this year's tournament.

Can Oregon State continue the momentum against South Carolina?

Even more impressive to me is that the American Athletic Conference has a perfect unbeaten and unblemished record against the mighty Pac-12 in this year’s NCAA tournament. :D

It's a good thing that you didn't mention the WNIT. Nobody wants to talk about Houston beating ASU in the Consolation.

No SEC teams rose. Arkansas fell 9 spots!

No ACC teams rose.

Big 12 mixed bag. Okie State up by 4 spots

Further down, Nebraska rose 12 spots and BYU rose 15 spots

That Coug trapping defense was unreal in the first quarter. The Devils couldn't overcome what has become a familiar theme this season which is a lousy first quarter. After trailing by 9 they took the lead in the fourth but couldn't withstand the Cougar charge. Houston bagged two key offensive boards late in the game. 50-48 and really fun to see intense defense.

On a more serious note, this statistic of first-round W-L record is impressive-sounding but a bit misleading. How many of those first-round wins were by teams seeded 9 or lower? Likely not many. Again, the women's tournament is notoriously chalky. I do remember Oregon as an under-seeded 10 just barely squeaking by 7th seeded Temple by a single point when a would-be buzzer beater rimmed out. And I think maybe Cal was a 9 that year and beat UNC (yawn) in the 1st round in Waco.

However it is nice to take care of your business. I'm sure Arkansas can attest to that.
