Not sure if this has really been discussed before

Although this doesnt partiularly apply to todays game because of JCs absence, its been going on the whole season. Can someone give me a good reason why JC allows AD to take those ugly, raw, chest pass fade away jump shots in the post, or near the elbow; and doesnt yank him from the game to help him out? Those shots are free, non-stat turnovers. We know that he is raw in the post and doesnt have many moves, but hasnt the coaching staff discussed that those types of shots are the complete opposite of what AD should be doing? Maybe they dont want to harm his aggressiveness but those shots are just ugly. AO can get away with some fades in the post at times and hes shown that he can hit open elbow shots... But AD seems to have no touch at all... Why does this continue to happen game in and game out?

Thats it though? Dont get me wrong with this post, AD has given us some big production. But these shots really frustrate me because they honestly take away from his game. Not trying to bash AD just wondering if hes getting the proper help..

I agree completely. The funny thing is that they were falling in the WV game (still ugly as all hell) and were a big reason we won that game.

I have commented on this in several previous posts. Live games are not the time or place for Drummond to be experimenting with new shots and offensive moves. That moves should be practiced and perfected in practice first. Maybe this isn't happening in practice because we don't have a good big man coach so he feels he needs to do it in games?

When your top two starters -Lamb and Napier shoot 5% from the field the fade away 7% jump shot becomes a solid go-to play?

I have to agree here. For some reason, Drummond believes that jumpers, floaters, and fadeaways are acceptable shots for him to be taking.

He has a lot of bad habits, but you would think that would be a pretty easy one to break. Has he really not heard the old "take one more shot outside of 7 feet and you'll never play again" line yet?

AD will benefit by staying another year, but if we are sanctioned from participating in the ncaa's he will follow the money. He really needs work, but or he will have a short career. He's athletic, but without a stronger offensive skill set the next level for him may be Europe.

I wonder if he has been getting the "star" treatment where he does not get yelled at or have his mistakes pointed out to him. He certainly does not get the JC "in your face" treatment that most others get. I don't mean that he needs to be yelled at, but I do think he should have been taken out and have it explained to him about his many bad decisions, but especially about his frequently not moving into the paint to compete for rebounds, or even trying to box out.

I think that it would have been better to put him on a dunk only or attack the basket-only shot restriction, taking him out every time he tried those fadeaway shots. He is not learning to utilize the huge advantage of his size and athletic ability near the hoop.

I was just looking up past years' rosters and I find it amazing that in the past 20 years, there was only 1 year in which uconn didn't have an NBA center on its roster- 2000-2001. This is assuming Alex somehow makes it to the league, which is far from guaranteed, but definitely possible.

I know AD compares very favorably to a freshman Travis Knight and Voskuhl and Hilton and Thabeet, but all of these guys developed into NBA players here, at uconn (and most of these guys without Clyde Vaughn).

Calhoun and his staff simply know how to get centers into the league.

If this were 15 years ago, maybe Andre wouldn't have had such ridiculous hype coming in and many fans without inside knowledge, like myself, would just chalk it up to him being a freshman.

AD just needs more time to learn how to utilize his size and strength.

The handling of AD is one thing I haven't understood this year. I'm sure I'm not the only one who remembers CV being benched during his sophomore year for not taking advantage of his skills at the college level in the post and for being weak defensively. CV's defensively still had his wtf moments but he did try to put more effort in and he became a monster in the post during the latter half of his soph year. Not sure why AD isn't being pulled when he takes those shots(and they always seem to come when we're trying to get over a hump during a comeback), and his defensive effort in protecting the lane and helping is laughable at times. I know in that AD vs EO post a few weeks back there was some trying to argue that AD is having a better freshman year than EO, EO's defense and rebounding alone gets him the nod, Waiters and the rest of them would've never been waltzing through the lane against him like that.

There is a lot of truth in a lot of these posts. AD is given favoritism treatment, for whatever reason, and I think it's fair to ask if this team would have been better had he never showed up and we played tougher in the lane all year.

A lot of stuff on Drummond today considering he was our best player last night. Weak perimeter defense (a familar concept thoughout the year) and zero points from our point guard is what did us in.

I think that the coaching staff realizes that he is fragile mentally.

For the record, this post was made weeks ago, idk why its being brought up now haha. I thought he Showed a lot of hustle last night. He did put up one jump shot that made me cringe, but he Played well.

its an automatic waste of possession when he shoots a jump shot. so frustrating, if i were calhoun or blaney, i would it his as* on the pine every time he does that. Literally a waste of a possession. its not a hard concept, dont shoot the ball drummond
