Feb 1. Would hope that St. John’s and Creighton could move into the top 25 but should we lose to unranked BE teams we fall with no easy way to climb?

In the world of the polls, you climb just by winning when other teams lose. You don't need to beat good teams to climb.

In the world of the stats, you climb by beating teams by more than the computers think you should beat them, so again beating good teams isn't a necessity.

The only time beating good teams is necessary is to get into the polls in the first place, but we're already there.

Why do we manufacture things to worry about?

It's simple, if we take care of business we'll be fine. If we don't, we'll deserve what we get. It won't be anyone's fault but our own.

With OOC season generally over, the laws of relativity do kick in at this point as it comes to metrics. We don’t play a top 40 KP team until February, so we need to kick @ss and take no prisoners until then. We should be favored through the next ten. Still lots to keep ironing out, BE awards to be won.

Unfortunately the BE will be very similar to some of those AAC years.
Some of the top Big East teams are decimated by injuries again but it's certainly not the AAC and it's still better than the ACC.

It would've been nice to see Creighton with Pops Isaac, Zugic, and Larry Johnson and it would've been nice to see Xavier with Traore. I think both of those teams would've been very good with those guys.

Someone needs to explain this asinine obsession this board has w polls to me. I really don’t get bit. Its the same thing EVERY YEAR.

If we take care of our own business, who the hell cares what the polls say???

Why do they have polls? Should we just blow them up? It’s a marketing thing, helps with recruiting, a point for a fanbase to celebrate around. It’s part of the landscape, for healthy debate, bragging rights. What are sports without some narrative?

1) If you're clicking around trying to find a game when UConn isn't playing, are you more likely to tune into a game with a ranked team or a game with two unranked teams? Are you more likely to set some time aside to watch two top 10 teams? More eyes on the team is a good thing.
2) Have you noticed how they promote upcoming games during down time when watching other sports? You keep seeing the ranked teams get those promos. Prospects who have a much shorter history than most of us here are not seeing Syracuse or Pitt etc. They keep seeing UConn over the years and that makes a difference.
3) I would be willing to think they have some weight in seedings even if it's not one of the specific criteria.
4) Most obviously, as you get deeper into the season, they are a pretty good barometer for how good the team really is. Wanting your team ranked higher probably means they are better than lower ranked teams (aside from pre-season and first few week polls).

ie. At this point in the season and going forward, you obviously want them ranked as high as possible for obvious reasons.

I dislike these rankings and I keep bringing up Dayton who gets little respect. But in past years we’ve had 4 ranked teams to play in the BE at times so it is what it is this year.

It’s more seeding from my perspective. Polls unfortunately impact seeding for the tournament.

DePaul (69) and Georgetown (91) are both 8-2 and moving up the Net. This year could see a lot of Big East teams just outside the top 25 which is still pretty good on the resume. Maybe Seton Hall will be the worst but the conference as a whole should be better than last year. These days programs can turn around quickly, unless it's something like U of South Canada.

Xavier (77), Butler (76), DePaul (69), PC (74) over the next 3 weeks. One game at a time and treat each game like a Gonzaga. That would be a good start. For reference, losses and Net:

Memphis (33)
Colorado (75)
Dayton (23)

As great as we Husky fans feel after a hard fought win over a very good, maybe even great, Gonzaga team, we cannot overlook Big East opponents thinking the season will be a cake walk. More importantly the players cannot either and I don't think they will.

Spooky, cooky, wacky stuff happens in these BE games, especially on the road. I know Seton Hall looks really bad, well, because they are. However, when UConn visits them, I won't be taking that game as an easy victory.

After the last three games I am good taking it one game at a time. Unfortunately the BE will be very similar to some of those AAC years. One game at a time……that’s all we can control.
I can understand the concern, but I don’t think the BE is anywhere as bad as the AAC was. The BE may not be as strong at the top as in recent years, but it’s much stronger at the bottom with nobody currently lower than the 90s in the NET. In the AAC, it was normal to play sub 100 teams in front of 3,000 people. I just had PTSD from typing “AAC”.

We’re in a pretty good spot where we’ve played ourselves back above the level where we would need to worry about other teams

Win the games you’re supposed to win, don’t lose the games you’re not supposed to lose, and there’s nothing to worry about

It don't matter where we're ranked. It only matters how we're playing in March.

If pollsters and metrics decided national champions or even tournament success, we don't have six banners.

Dook, UK, KU and even Gonzaga all have much more tourament success.

They absolutely do not. Every year there are teams whose seed bears no resemblance to their ranking in the polls. That's just silly.

Fans like them (polls) and high rankings generate interest in various programs and more interest leads to more eyeballs which leads to more $$$.

Ranking aren't pointless.

Quad 1 & Quad 2 wins > rankings
Literally took winning 9 straight NCAA games before the along heads agreed we were the best team. After the first 6 people were still having the moronic blue blood debate.
