His first season in the NBA hasn't even concluded yet. He's on a good NBA team that's playing in the second round tonight.
Sure, he hasn't been highly productive since being drafted, but again, it's so early in his career. Similarly, while he's not playing much right now for the Thunder, I think Jeremy Lamb has a nice NBA career ahead of him.
People are too quick to label young players busts.

Particularly players who declared 'early'. The NBA is a business whose veterans depend on salary to live like any other employee. A newcomer who was very good in college will be 'abused' by veterans who feel threatened or because of experience limit the newbies playing time and confidence. Not too many rookie sensations anymore.
All youngsters just need to weather a 3 year storm before coming into their own, the key is not quitting or losing confidence.

I think Porter is probably 60/40 to be a quality NBA starter, but it is way too early to declare him a bust

Its TBD on Porter (certainly taken too early though) with a lot of time remaining, but it is getting late on Lamb. He's got 1-2yrs left to prove he belongs and I think most expected him to fill the Harden-Kevin Marten role. Instead Derek Fisher got just almost as much burn during the season and now Caron Butler is getting all of Lamb's minutes (at league minimum by the way). Great for Caron but Lamb has failed to capitalize on a major opportunity. Its a bummer that Jeremy hasn't logged one meaningful minute yet in 7 playoff games.

Lamb is still quite young. He's younger than Michael Carter-Williams and Victor Oladipo, just from the most recent draft class, and two years younger than a player like Damian Lilliard. Guy's still only 21.
If he were on a team where he could chuck, he'd be fine. I mean, he destroyed the D League...they had to bring him up. And, when he was playing minutes, he was performing. Brooks just...yeah, Brooks just sucks.

It does seem like he's been gone longer. I think it's because there have been so many UConn angst cycles since then that the 2012 season feels like it was about a decade ago.
Brooks is perfectly mediocre.
Lamb had a solid season. He will be picked up by someone if OKC ever doesn't resign him, or wants to trade him.

Youth argument helps. I have not seen anywhere near enough non-playoff Thunder games to know, but having seen playoff games understand your point about Brooks (RUN a PLAY!!). I've expected the summer and/or D league stuff to translate into NBA game success for Lamb for awhile now and it hasn't happened for some reason.
Lamb shot 35.6% from 3 vs 38.4% for Fisher (better D) and 33.9 for Jackson (can play both guard positions). Caron shot 44.1% from 3 and can defend and rebound so he is obvious choice over any of em'. I would love to see Lamb's shot chart.
For Lamb would you say either his maturity or physical development have negatively affected his performance? I think its kind of defense and that he should be knocking down wide open 3's with more regularity (I'm assuming he gets good looks but again don't know). Maybe put him on a team like the Spurs and he's thriving (although seemingly that is true of anyone on the Spurs). I think he has to make some sort of physical, work ethic or other change one of these summers but he does have an upward trajectory after 2yrs, I suppose my expectations are high.

He's improved in a number of ways. When Westbrook was injured, he often had ball-handling duties with the second team--and performed well, which I would never have imagined he could do when he played here.
I don't think it's a work ethic or physical issue. I think he just needs to get the minutes and he'll produce.

I love Porter's game. He's long, he's athletic, he defends, he shoots high percentage shots. Plus, he's just 20 years old. Compare him to Daniels, who is 22 years.

Look at Jrue Holiday, Ty Lawson or Jeff Teague... all guys who developed before getting the starting job. I always think you have to see at least a 20-ish minutes per game season from someone before labeling them a bust. People were calling Anthony Bennett a bust but I think if you give him 3-4 years, he'll find a position and be a decent player.
The first overall pick = a decent player = a bust?

When I try and determine if someone is a bust I don't account for draft position, either they were lottery and up or they weren't. Basically, I think a bust is someone in the lottery area who didn't pan out or live up to their potential. I see Anthony Bennett as being a solid player in a few years so I do not see him as a bust.
