A couple of upsets:
  • Purdue may have just played its way into the right side of the bubble, pulling off their second consecutive win over a top-25 team with a huge road victory (76-70) at #18 Iowa, led by the 34-point output from Andreona Keys. Megan Gustafson of Iowa had 37 points and 14 rebounds in the losing effort.
  • The same can perhaps be said about Kansas State, after their convincing 80-64 win over #20 Oklahoma State. Kaylee Page of KSU hit six 3-pointers and, with her 20 points, led five players in double figures. Kaylee Jensen had 24 points and 13 boards for OSU.
A couple of close calls:
  • #21 Rutgers, after losing ugly to Purdue, got back in the win column with a 70-60 overtime win over Minnesota. Rutgers was led in scoring by Tyler Scaife (25 points) and Stasha Carey (23), but they got all they could handle from Minnesota, which was led by Carlie Wagner and Destiny Pitts with 22 points apiece. (Pitts is a candidate for Big Ten FOY.)
  • #7 Texas got a tougher-than-expected game from Kansas. The Jayhawks actually led by 2 at halftime and, after Texas took control in 3Q, came as close as 7 points midway through 4Q before the Longhorns finally pulled away for good. Texas was led by Ariel Atkins' 22 points, but as a team continues to underwhelm.
Ongoing:
  • #15 West Virginia is up by 6 early in 4Q against TCU, which is fresh off its upset of Texas. The good news for the Mountaineers is that Kristina King, who broke her foot last month and wasn't projected back until early February, is back on the court.

Watching the WVU game now. The Mountaineers leading scorer Naomi Davenport received a common foul and a technical at the top of the 4th quarter which was her 4th and 5th foul.

TCU is making a game of it. TCU took out Texas earlier this week.

Whoa, a technical on top of a common foul? What did she do??

It was on a rebound. Was actually a double technical. To my eyes they were just aggressively going for the rebound. I think it should have been just a common foul but Im no ref.

McDonalds AA Amber Ramirez ties the game at the free throw line 64-64 with 49 seconds. WVU has the ball.

Could the Horned Frogs (much like Purdue) knock off its second straight ranked opponent??

Freshman Ashley Jones makes a driving lay up to give WVU up by 2 with 30seconds

Headed to OT by a layup by Amy Okonkwo for TCU.
I'd like to know why Chania Ray of WVU was tasked with guarding the TCU post player on the final inbound play.

WVU gave up the game-tying layup on a simple lob pass from the inbounder.

Yea--didnt understand that and it was obvious what TCU was going to do.

WOW!!! What a game. Tie up with 5 seconds gives TCU the ball under their basket. Inbounds play has 6-2 F Amy Okonkwo hits a 3 and TCU takes the lead 76-74.

Horned Frogs hang on to beat their second straight ranked team.

So I believe Okonkwo hit both the game-tying layup in the final seconds of regulation and the game-winning 3-pointer in overtime.

Quite a win for the Horned Frogs of TCU.

They are on a roll!!

Another upset is lurking:

Nebraska leads #23 Michigan by 3 points with 0:21 to play. Michigan has the ball and needs a 3-pointer to tie.

Man I really can't believe what I just saw.

Michigan player takes a 3-point shot and the Nebraska player makes one of the cleanest blocks I have ever seen. Hand all over the ball, just smothers it. But Tina Napier calls a foul, sending Michigan to the line for 3 foul shots with 0:00.7 left on the clock. She makes all 3 and we're headed to OT.

Just a horrible, horrible call that robbed Nebraska of a win in regulation.

Nebraska loses it in OT outscored 7-2. Makes sense since Nebraska must have been very demoralized.

I wonder if TCU is going to get some votes in tomorrow's poll?

I’m sure that both TCU and Purdue will be receiving votes and, who knows, may crack the top 25. TCU, in particular, after beating a top 10 team and a top 15 team back to back.
