The Duke-Northwestern game in development is significant enough that I think a separate thread is needed to help process Triad's grief :):cool:Head bang

In the meantime, Purdue is struggling mightily against Harvard, which is fresh off getting blown out by Notre Dame.

Kristine Anigwe with 24 pts and 22 rebounds to help Cal pull away late from Penn State, 75-58.

She was good, but not quite up to her standards last year. I'm looking for a big Sr. year for her.

Miami prevails, 75-62
Maryland pulls it out in a defensive struggle, 82-71
Tenn dominates, 97-49
Georgia beats Winthrop, 85-39

I watched just tiny portions of the Tennessee game, and they have quite a few new faces seeing court time, all of whom are tall, long and athletic. They were full-court pressing the entire time I saw them, and causing the relatively munchkin Presbyterian players all sorts of trouble. Box score shows Presby finishing with 39 turnovers.

Washington State trying to come back on St. Mary's in the 4th quarter. They just got a steal and layup to close the deficit to 4 with 2:00 to play:
WSU Live Stream

I really like Kamie Ethridge and I think she was a great hire, but man does she have her work cut out for her.

That's 39 turnovers. Is the most in a game since 2002. When Charlotte had 40.

You mean the most in any NCAA women's game? Or just any Tennessee game?

Shakira Austin had more modest stats today for the Terps: 6 rebounds and 2 blocks, but 14 points on 5-8 shooting.

Kaila Charles had 22, 6, and 4. She's very good.

UCLA survives a stiff challenge from Rice. Final score 59-50.

I'm still not seeing anything from UCLA that suggests they're anywhere close to an NCAA tournament-caliber team.

But the Bruins better find it soon, because they host 14th-ranked Georgia on Wednesday.

Any boneyarders watching the Baylor at ASU game on ESPN2? My DirecTV audio is horrible.

Yep, we have a separate thread opened up for this game.

Watching on Espn2, surprising game, ASU up at half double digits. ASU hot from 3 point land, Baylor needs a true point guard, Jackson just not getting the job done. The first half has illustrated the critical importance of the Point Guard!

On a whim I went to the UW game against Northern Arizona today. NAU's coach is former Husky great Loree Payne, cool to see her at Hec Ed again. They had a nice tribute to her before the game. Low scoring ugly first half, UW led 29-21. NAU was pesky but finally end of Q3 UW started getting separation, ending up winning by 20+. Scored 52 points in the second half, and that was with only hitting 4 from behind the arc (4-16). Forced a bunch of turnovers, but gave the ball right back even more. Too generous of them. Many of UW's TOs were unforced and of the bonehead variety, gotta clean that up. It became very evident that Wynn wasn't able to coach the way she wanted to most of last year, just not enough healthy bodies (only 7 players suited up for games by the end of the year). Today it was lots of full court pressing and trapping, and multiple subs at nearly every dead ball. Mixed up zone and man to man defense but extended pressure well out to the perimeter either way. Melgoza had a strong game, 20 points 10 rebounds 8 assists. Her first career double-double and barely missed a triple double. There are some strong rebounding guards in the Pac 12. 5 Huskies in double figure scoring, I'm not sure that ever happened last year. The 2 freshmen look like ballers. Van Dyke struggled with her shot but she's got a good feel for the game. Watkins looked good too. There's nowhere to go but up after last year. They'll still be in the lower half of the Pac but I'm hopeful there will be some significant improvement this year.

Baylor 65-59. Baylor size too much for ASU. Old saying live by the 3, die by the 3 appropriate for ASU. Baylor weakness, lack of speed and ball handling, was apparent.

Stanford ran away with it today. Scored 115. Box score on ESPN is only showing stats for starters. Got a ton of bench points as well. I'm thinking I was correct that Lexie Hull is going to be among the best freshmen this year and she didn't get nearly as much publicity or attention as she deserved. Idaho was 15-24 behind the arc and still got blown out by 40+, how often does that happen?

On that Stanford game, a 49-20 rebounding advantage, including 20 O boards, and having a 84 to 59 FGA differential will take you a long way. Stanford nearly had as many made FG (45) as Idaho had attempts.
