The WNBA is inundated with early-season injuries, and it could be a sign that the league's schedule needs adjusting

The points is that even with the significant upward adjustment in salaries, The W is still a minor league financially for most of the players...Where the money is comes first.

With the inevitable consequences...
And having a longer training camp won't matter.

I wonder if it could also be bigger, stronger players - more physical play.

There is certainly a portion of the issue being that athletic training and nutrition have pushed the athletes in all sports to the edge of the joint/muscle/bone limits of the human body - faster, higher, quicker creates issues that evolution cannot keep up with.

The other issue being there just isn't enough rest/recovery for most WBB players and especially the best who end up playing extended seasons both in the W and on their overseas teams. There are injuries in all sports, but WBB puts most stress on the stars and so the injuries are more widely publicized and more impactful.

The Asian pro seasons tend to be shorter and I have always thought playing in Asia was a wise choice over Europe for that reason - the European season starts before the end of the W playoffs and the W season starts before the end of the European playoffs.
