I don't know why I get so annoyed at some of these manufactured expressions but I do. Some are cool and fun but a few that especially irk me.

"The iron is unkind" - Tim Brando - mainly the way he says it, employing a whiny voice just for a missed shot. Stupid

"Hand down, man down" - Mark Jackson - I think I just don't know what he's talking about. What is he describing?

"Mama, there goes that man" - Mark Jackson - Just dumb, doesnt capture my vibe when someone has a good play.

Thing is, I know exactly what that game looks and feels like. I like the term.
I agree. I hate the game it describes but I know just what it means. OTOH, WTF does "score the basketball" mean? Luckily it appears to have faded.

.-.
I hate "get in the hole!" being yelled every time someone swings in golf.
Golfing Oh Boy GIF by Rooster Teeth

Fanta's little nicknames and catchphrases usually fall flat for me.

.-.
The original three point play (which is finally diminishing in use)

He had the presence of mind

That was a good non-call (usually means a foul wasn't called, otherwise say that was not a foul)

The body of work (means they played overrated teams in an overrated conference)

It wouldn’t bother me if announcers said, “presence of mind,” when that’s what it is. So many of these idiots say, “wherewithal,” instead. No! Wrong word. Stop saying it

I hear ya. Normally that's during a putt. Every golf tournament across the nation somebody yells that. I wonder if it's the same guy and is contracted by PGA.

I'll never ever like "Let's Gooooo!". It's yelled every time a person doesnt know what else to say.

Any camera pan to the crowd- every single face painted kid screaming the same phrase.
🤔
What irks me about it is when people yell it after the game is over and they've already won.

"L-F-G!!" Go where? You already won! Pipe down.

Some guys I play with use this.

It's when their defender has their hand down (instead of up), and they pull up to shoot a 3. The "man down" is for when they make the shot, it's like the defender has been shot.

"The keys to victory are to get easy baskets on the offensive end, and limit opportunities and second chance points on the defensive end" ... oh, really

"He can do that" after a player scores an unconventional basket ... yeah, we just saw that

Nothing gets me like Doris Burke's incessant "the dribble drive".
Or "comports" as in "she comports herself calmly against the full court press," which sounds kind of patronizing and understates their physical skill by reducing their performance to a mental accomplishment.

"He took a base hit away from McMillan there!"

No, he made an out.

"This pitcher hasn't given up a home run to a left-handed batter in two years"

Crack! And it's out of here...

Wow, a lot of these phrases I'm reading here I used to hear on those late 90s PlayStation 1 college basketball games.

"Iron unkind" lol
