OT Windows 10 - Should You Upgrade?

Windows 10 = Genisys. I hope you get the reference. I build my own computers, I currently am using a desktop with an ASUS board, Intel Socket 2011 Core i7 Extreme Edition Processor, EVGA graphics card, 32GB RAM, some pretty high end stuff. I have a legitimate copy of Windows 8 I bought. The Windows 10 pre install said everything was OK to install - my computer met the minimum requirements. 20 times the Microsoft update has tried to install Windows 10 and failed. I get various error codes but the most common has recommendations online for a fix to re download Windows 10 - this has not helped. I tried the clean install using a USB Flash drive - no luck. I keep hoping they will have an updated version of Windows 10 that won't have this problem. One of the recent "fixes" I've seen for my problem is to disconnect all of the internal SATA drives except the hard drives you are installing it in. I remember this was a fix for upgrading to Windows 8 so I might try that - it's not hard for me to do. I'd hate to have to call Microsoft now - I'd wait until the end of the year first when things may have settled down from the first installers - hopefully they have fixed the problem by then - at least we have a year.

My wife's Dell laptop a bought a few years ago go sent a message from the Windows 10 pre installer that her Wi-Fi chip would not be compatible with Windows 10 and she would loose that function if she updated - guess we won't be doing that.
Our local Guru, who is extremely honest, says he installed the new Win 10 on multiple computers at home and at work and has had NO problems. I asked about going back to win 7 if I didn't like the Win10, even though I have not full install disk, he says MS say you can return to Win 7. I don't trust MS or Gates his history with DOS and Icons does not give me a warm and fuzzy feeling.
I'm gong to download Win 10, I understand it will tie up my computer for hours, I'll have to disable my automatic shut down and hope the WiFi lines stay up and healthy.

Just an update.
At some point I think Win 10 will be fine
moved my favorites over to Edge.

HOWEVER -- 2 issuies

1.) The (Elan) touch pad and mouse - pointer and left click works then doesn't work - no driver upgrade yet (I guess) - I could blame Microsoft or ACER/Elan - Don't know which
2.) Comcast and Norton's Security Suite (bundled "FREE" with my Comcast subscription) is NOT READY YET!@!
In both cases, I blame Acer, Elan, Comcast, and Norton. It's galling! They had PLENTY of time to prepare (and, typically, seem not at all in a hurry to make a fix)

I've worked in Software development on huge systems for the Feds. Bugs are never all ever removed, the right combination of applications , key strokes, etc especially those not expected may cause a blip in your system. I don't know how long MS worked on Win 10 so I can't comment directly on them. However, MS historically has jumped the gun an given the public incomplete SW. I'm not a Bill Gates/MS fan--so my comments are biased.

FYI I have Windows Vista (apparently i'm really behind the times) and looked up how to download version 10. It says there is supposed to be an icon at the bottom of my8 computer with my other programs, and that I have to "reserve" it first. That's fine but I don't have that windows icon at the bottom of my computer to even reserve it.

I'm in process of "updating" some windows software, but i'm not sure if that will fix the issue. is my computer just too old for windows 10?
Yeah, MS is only offering free Win 10 upgrades to Win 7 and Win 8 users, Eric...

ok thanks. is it possible to upgrade from vista to 7 or 8 so i can then move forward, or am I S.O.L.? I tried asking those questions in a search engine and got nada LOL...

It's nice to know that the BY peeps know more than info out on the net!!

Yes, you can upgrade Vista to 7, but I'd recommend a fresh installation of 7 or 8, and then the upgrade to 10 for a cleaner installation.
