There's just a remnant of the Big 4, and his name is Roger. He's also the only one heading for the semis in straight sets.
If you've been moaning about the state of America's males, take some heart, for one . Sam Querry is in the semis, having dispatched Britain's hope. Andy seemed o have physical problems leading to him only mustering one game apiece is sets 4 & 5.
Novak retired in his second set. A Walking Wounded Wimbledon.

The ladies play in succession on Center Court in the semis starting at 1pm London time.

Is anyone else sick of Chris Fowler? He's a maddening know-it-all. Always needs the last word like he has something to prove. Answers his own questions, just the worst.
Bring back Bud Collins and Donald Dell and Barry Mackay. Collins was awesome, and Dell was the perfect straight man, while Mackay worked the crowd. To this day, I still think those three had a hand in starting the tennis boom of the 70's & 80's.

The coin was flipped. Venus to serve. The ump calls, "Play". Venus is on the service line, ready to toss.
At that very moment along comes a curious bumblebee, delaying her start. A Portent?
In the natch Johanna would hit 8 aces, Venus only one. A Portent?

Johanna has a winning record against Venus, all on hard courts. Venus has the most recent victory, at the clay of Rome.
They are today playing for the first time on grass.

In recent history Venus has been slowly working her way back to being an elite player. When she won the Aussie semifinal, we saw the exuberant celebration that we witnessed so many years ago. Six Majors round-of-16 appearances, including last year's W semis, have prepared her for today.

She was an assassin, strong of serve, phenomenally strong of forehand, only 9 unforced errors through the 2 sets.
She emerged with a 6-4, 6-2 conquest. Happiness was evident, though not with the emotional display of her Aussie win. Why not?
Well, I think inside Venus is the view, "Hey, this is Center court, Wimbledon and I'm not done.

And the announcers, including Chrisee, remarked that they have never seen Venus so consistent. At 37, mind you. Whew.

She returns vs. Gabine Muguruza Saturday at 9, UConn time.

While Wimbledon is not over, both the American women and men have clinched the title for most winning matches by country. The women have won 21 matches and the most any other country has won is Slovakia with 8. Spain can tie Slovakia if Muguruza beats Venus but don't count on it.
The men have won 14 matches and no one can catch them. France is closest with 13 but they are done. Good wishes to Sam.
IMO, this has been a fantastic accomplishment by both men and women, particularly if one were to listen to the pre-Wimbledon pundits.
ps..favorite announcer...hands down, Mary Carillo

It was over when Venus didn't convert one of those 2 break points. Tremendous run, though.
