This is in my neck of the woods. The pleasures of having a high school level football team.

Edit: UCI is UC Irvine, a school about 90 miles from where I live. They don't have winter breaks and consequently no need to look for housing in Connecticut.

I remember many years ago being on vacation in ST Lucia where we met some people from the midwest. While we were talking I mentioned I was a big UConn basketball fan and went to all their games. He looked at me incredulously and said, "You go all the way to Alaska to watch basketball?"

btw a surprising number of people don't realize the Yukon Territory is in Canada. The image I use in my posts is from Alberta - Icefield Parkway.

That had happened to one of the top recruits in the 1990s. Probably Kara Wolters. Her (extended?) family was surprised that she would be going to Yukon to play basketball. People here can fill in the details.
