OT- WCBB player to watch

I was watching a game in which the Missouri women's team were playing a couple of weeks ago. I got interested because the announcers said that there were three pairs of sisters playing on the team. I was trying to figure out which girls were sisters.

I wasn't paying close attention to any individual player but at the half they said that one girl had scored 25 points. It was a freshman named Sophie Cunningham. She ended up setting a school one game scoring record with around 42 points (can't remember the exact total).

What was funny was that although I had watched the entire first half I didn't notice her scoring those points. In the second half she cooled off a little. I plan to go see her play in person when she plays Nebraska.

She could be interesting to follow so if they televise one of their games try to watch it.

I also saw Brittany Martin of Oklahoma State play this Monday on tv. She may be one of the top players in the country this season, maybe rivaling Stewie. She doesn't have the top tier teammates/coaching staff that Stewie has and has to carry the team on her back. She and they had a good game Monday.

She caught my eye a couple of years ago when she scored 25 points and got 25 rebounds in an NCAA Tournament game. She had Tiffany Bias then.

Just then the announcer of the HS game gave her total 25 points. Point is--some kids aren't thumping their chests after each score, some like Maya are quiet kids that take over a game.

Good point! Recruits to any school should look at how many (if any) "top tier" teammates she'll have if she commits to that program. It could make all the difference in the world.

I took a look at Martin's stats. She shot 41.0% last year and her usage was 24.38%. This year she is shooting 50.6% on 30.1% usage. Usually higher usage means a lower shooting percentage - you're taking more shots but the quality of the shots are worse on average.

Her usage has gone significantly up and her shooting percentage has gone up 10 points! Either she got WAY better since last season or she is due for some serious regression to the mean. It will be interesting to see how she does in conference play. Oklahoma State's non-conference schedule, while not outrageously bad, wasn't terribly strong either (ranked 177 by Sagarin to date). 26 and 10 against Baylor is obviously fantastic but Iowa State held her to 6 points. I'd guess her average game will end up somewhere in the middle.

I think the officiating may have been a little...shall we say...slanted a certain way this game.

Last year she really didn't have much help. This year it looks like her teammates have matured somewhat.
